Does anyone know if MGM has any plans to release the 1965 John Sturges movie The Satan Bug on DVD in the United States?

Does anyone know if Sony has any plans to release the 1973 Charles Bronson movie The Stone Killer on DVD in the United States?

Does anyone know if Universal has any plans to release the 1976 Joel McRae movie Mustang Country on DVD?

Thanks!

SATAN BUG remains stubbornly unavailable on DVD in Region 1. It seems to have a fairly faithful cult following. It's long out-of-print soundtrack was released a year or so ago, the result of an incredible number of fan requests. The film would do well for Fox, I think.

I am also hoping for Sony to release The Stone Killer. The Outfit which is a MGM property is also another classic that needs a release.

THE OUTFIT and THE SPLIT!!! They are all part of the late Donald Westlake 's(as Richard Stark)series. Other adaptations of the Parker/Porter books were POINT BLANK, SLAYGROUND, and PAYBACK. THE SATAN BUG os MGM; THE STONE KILLER is Columbia; THE OUTFIT and THE SPLIT are WB.

First, we have to get MGM to release classic catalog titles besides ones that feature "The Pink Panther" in the title or that feature "007" as their main character, because other than that, they are doing nothing!

Has anyone at the Home Theatre Forum any new information about the possiblility of The Satan Bug being released on DVD in the United States? Can anyone confirm that MGM/United Artists own the rights to The Satan Bug? I believe MGM/UA does own it.

How about any new information about the possibility of The Stone Killer being released on DVD in the United States and Universal releasing Mustang Country on DVD in the United States.

Finally does anyone have any information as to possible reasons why The Satan Bug, The Stone Killer, and Mustang Country; films with big stars and from the 1960's and 1970's are not available yet on DVD?

Thanks everyone for your help! Take Care!

MGM does own the rights to The Satan Bug and why it has not been released on DVD is one of those mysteries that will never get answered. At the present there is little hope to see this film on DVD in the next two or three years. MGM has just about given up releasing their catalog titles no matter how many requests they have, so there will need to be a change in policy to see this film.

The Stone Killer is owned by Sony since it was a Columbia production. Charles Bronson titles do sell and Sony is mining those titles and there could be a release in the future.

Universal is the owner of Mustang Country and Joel McCrea came out of retirement to make this, his final film. Universal is very picky about what they are releasing on DVD now so don't hold your breath on this title.

I was surprised that the Paul Newman Tribute Collection due out tomorrow from MGM/TCF does not inc;ude PARIS BLUES (with Joanne Woodward and Sidney Poitier). A rights problem with the Duke Ellington score? It would seem surefire and it's never been out on dvd in R1. Other surefire titles: TRAPEZE (Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis, Gina Lollabrigida); NOT AS A STRANGER (Robert Mitchum, Lee Marvin, Frank Sinatra, Olivia deHavilland); ACT OF LOVE (Kirk Douglas, Brigitte Bardot); SHAKE HANDS WITH THE DEVIL (James Cagney); RETURN TO PARADISE (Gary Cooper); THE DEVIL'S DISCIPLE (Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster, Laurence Olivier); THE HAWAIIANS (Charlton Heston); COLD TURKEY (Dick Van Dyke, Bob Newhart), THE HAPPY ENDING (Jean Simmons, Bobby Darin), THE OFFENCE (Sean Connery), WOMAN OF STRAW (Sean Connery, Gina Lollabrigida),THE HAPPY THIEVES (Rex Harrison, Rita Hayworth), THE HONEY POT (Rex Harrison, Susan Hayward, Cliff Robertson, Maggie Smith), THE BEST MAN (Henry Fonda, Cliff Robertson, Edie Adams), MAN WITH A MILLION (Gregory Peck), BY LOVE POSSESSED (Lana Turner), JOHNNY CONCHO (Frank Sinatra), GOODBYE AGAIN (Ingrid Bergman, Yves Montand), FIVE MILES TO MIDNIGHT (Sophia Loren, Anthony Perkins). THE GROUP (Candice Bergan), THE NAKED MAJA )Ava Gardner), STOLEN HOURS (Susan Hayward), THE NAKED EDGE (Gary Cooper, Deborah Kerr), THE SEVENTH DAWN (William Holden), THE OUTSIDE MAN (Roy Scheider, Ann Margaret, Angie Dickinson), THE YOUNG DOCTORS (Fredric March, Ben Gazarra), THE HORNET'S NEST (Rock Hudson), THE WHITE BUFFALO (Charles Bronson), RUN TO THE SUN (Richard Widmark), A THOUSAND CLOWNS (Jason Robards)........and THE SATAN BUG.
But I doubt that we'll see any of these since MGM/Fox has a moratorium on classics.

Charles H you have answered your own question. If you look at the Paul Newman collection from MGM/Fox, the titles are all reissues of previous releases and not even an new transfer to be seen.

Not sure if this will help or hinder any release, but Cold Turkey's rights have reverted back to Norman Lear.

Every one of the titles you named would be great to own and I have sent letters on The Hawaiians and Trapeze and never received an answer or even a rejection.

We can only hope that the powers now in charge change their mind or are overthrown and with the financial problems facing MGM that might happen.

Just wanted to find if there is any news, etc. on Universal releasing Mustang Country 1976 starring Joel McRae on DVD in 2011. Anyone know what the hold up is? Does Universal still have a MOD program? If so, might Mustang Country be a candidate? Any news, information, etc. is appreciated!

Thanks And God Bless!

I think it's safe to say that after a full year of inactivity the Universal MOD is dead, long live the Universal MOD. But they'll never tell us, just as they never told us of its existence, either.
