It isn't the season sets I've been hoping for but this is a start. Amazon has had it on MOD for a while but to see it officially is nice. It wasn't a great movie and I hope they aren't basing demand for the series based on the movie. Maybe, just maybe, we're going to see the rest of the season sets come out.

It looks like MPI is also releasing some sort of Petticoat Junction set but it's going to be a 50th anniversary collection and they're not really saying what exactly will be on there. I would say that MPI is testing the waters to see if these sets will sell, or at least I hope so.

Problem is that on the Beverly Hillbillies movie, there are two inaccuracies on it and I already let MPI Home Video know about it and also asked about what will be on the PJ set they're releasing as well...here is the article from TVshowsondvd.com regarding the Beverly Hillbillies movie... http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Beverly-Hillbillies-The-Return-Of/17980 The two inaccuracies in this description are that they refer to Miss Jane as Mrs. Hathaway (didn't know she had gotten hitched unless she did so during the downtime of the show, but who knows) and they refer to Jethro as Jed's son and not his nephew, for which he was. Just saying.
Good catch! It looks as if though they've changed "son" to "nephew." However, they still have it as MRS. Hathaway!

I'm not even sure if nephew is right. They could never seem to decide how Jethro & Jed were actually related. He was called nephew on-screen but Jethro's mother Pearl & Jed were cousins which makes Jed & Jethro cousins. I'm not sure why they didn't make Pearl Jed's sister from the beginning.

I'm leaning more to the PJ 50th anniversary set; haven't heard many good things about the Beverly return movie (although I am a fan of Klemperer and Ebsen) ... I love the girls on the cover, and seeing Lori Saunders just jump starts my enthusiasm... I'll wait to hear more, but I also want to effectively send a message about wanting season releases of both series.

The PJ set sounds like an extras disc that would have been wonderful to include with actual season sets. http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Petticoat-Junction-Return-to-Hooterville/17978 PETTICOAT JUNCTION - RETURN TO HOOTERVILLE is a 50th Anniversary Tribute featuring cast interviews, behind-the-scenes materials, promotional appearances and other rare footage.

I've always wondered the same thing. There was one episode that Jed tried to explain it to Jethro. He went through a whole line of reasoning and ended up saying "well, anyway, I think you're a grand nephew" to which Jethro replied "thanks, Uncle Jed, you're a swell uncle!" :D The other alternative COULD be the same situation I'm in. I have cousins who are around the same age as my parents. I've never called them aunt/uncle but maybe that's the situation because of the age difference and Jed being his elder he just automatically called him uncle.

The problem there, though, is no matter how well these sell, MPI doesn't have the rights to release any more of Beverly Hillbillies. It's Paramount/CBS who have the rights to seasons 4 and beyond, and it's Paramount/CBS who have "stalled". It would seem that the reunion movie might have a different rights situation than the actual series episodes. The only reason MPI were able to release those early Season 1-2 Hillbillies episodes was because they were public domain.

Yeah, sadly that's the case. I'm supposing, though, that CBS HE also would own the rights to this movie and, if so, they've licensed it out to MPI. I know that's a far cry from season sets obviously but it does look somewhat promising.

More likely the reunion movie is owned by the Henning Estate, since these releases are being done with the cooperation of the estate.

Exactly, just like the P.D. sets of the early black-and-white episodes were. Anyone thinking this is a "positive step forward" for more season sets is likely to end up disappointed.

I remember reading that he licensed the rights as well. Now as far as when those rights expired/expired, I don't know anything on that. I know he's now focused on his Beverly Hillbillies slot machine project and I'm guessing has dumped plans for the casinos.

interesting...i didn't hear that he was dumping the casino plan...his site on that casino plan hasn't been updated in ages.
Like I said, it's a "guess" because I don't see him talking about it on Facebook now. It's all about the slot machines. It's not to say the casino isn't still on the back burner somewhere but I haven't heard anything said on it in a while.
