I watched my Criterion LD just this week. Seems i always watch the theatrical cut LD and not the director cut DVD. The LD has a nice picture and sound. Still...cant wait to see a new and improved DVD.

I won't take the DC DVD anywhere near my big-screen. The biggest set that thing gets played on is the 27" in the bedroom. [IMG]

I've seen the Theatrical Cut of Blade Runner many times in an old 70mm cinema. I'm not sure whether it was truly a 70mm blow-up print (because they appear to be quite rare) but the image was absolutely phenomenal. It was the best film experience I've ever had.

I watched this dvd a couple of years ago on my Panny L200. It was ok. It looked bad, but you can still enjoy it. I was desparate to see it.

So we are looking at possibly 2007?

I hope it has 5.1 sound (DTS would be nice).

Would be nice to have all versions available, especially the one with the narration and "uplifting finale".

I actually have the theatrical version on a store bought vhs video tape, but I am putting off watching it hoping that the dvd will come out.

I have the Criterion CLV LaserDisc version of BLADE RUNNER and have never seen the Director's Cut. Question to you folks who've seen other versions: Does this LaserDisc transfer look better than the wonky DVD that's been out there for years? Or does the DVD still improve things like red noise, etc.?

I would give the overall edge to the DC(Director's Cut) laserdisc(Pioneer); depending of course of the shape of each. The dvd having a bit better black level. The DC LD, I would give the edge in sound. Some say the Criterion CAV is better than the CLV and blah..blah..blah. I can't see it, and haven't in a while.

There are true experts(or supposed know-it-alls) on the subject(differences) of all the Laserdisc versions. Which from what I believe, there are 8 or 9.

So either way, we're talking 2007 for the SE dvd?

Will there be the theatrical version with the narration or no?

Better be included. I've only watched the so called "Directors Cut" a couple of times, hated it, it's not the film I saw at the cinema 24 years ago.
We have two ET's to choose from, two versions of Apocalypse Now, a multi-choice of Ridley Scott's Legend and Alien, why not have two maybe three versions of Blade Runner? [IMG]

To be fair, there are only 2 cuts of Black Hawk Down. It's just that one of 'em had 3 different DVD releases!

And don't forget another longer version of Scott's Kingdom of Heaven coming up.
I think Ridley Scott is the frontrunner when it comes to directors releasing multi-versions of their movie output, lets see: Alien, Blade Runner, Legend, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven, 6 films!
James Cameron is lagging behind with just three extended editions/directors cuts. [IMG]

The overall buzz (on the internet) is very sceptical. Most fans just expect a better transfer of the current Director's Cut (a heavy flawed cut, IMO) plus the existing docu.

While I like Apocalypse Now Redux, I was very disappointed that one of my favorite lines of all time was dropped from that version of the film....
    SOLDIER
"Goddamn, you stepped on my face !"
    LANCE
    "I thought you were dead."
    SOLDIER
"Well you thought wrong, dammit !"

And the thread is alive. I wonder how many years it will stay active until we the Special Edition of Blade Runner.

Sure, one of the several place for fans of the film to vent. I tend to be optimistic as to what we will eventually get. Where that stops though, is when.
