Yes, this is the easiest way to get third-party apps on your iPhone. Admittedly, Apple doesn't have official support for third-party apps, but they don't seem to be actively trying to stop this activity, either.

This is different from hacking your iPhone to unlock it for use on a non-AT&T carrier, which is a much dicier proposition.

It surprises me that they aren't actively supporting 3rd party apps, as the device just screams out for them. Is Apple planning on coming out with new applications for the iPhone (and the iPod touch for that matter) as time goes on?

Well folks, I had to restore my phone this morning to
its original settings. The phone would not update to
the new version and locked up in the process.

I didn't put any unlocking software into the phone, but I
did put the Nullriver
hack into the phone.

Guess Apple doesn't want us installing those nasty little
third party apps into our phone.

Just warning you that if you have been a bad boy by installing
anything "unApple" into your phone, you are going to pay dearly!

PS: I was able to restore the phone but any attempt to reinstall
the APPTAP (Nullriver) application was denied and caused me to do
another reinstall.

Will just have to wait for a new hack to get through this revision.
