According to DVD Answers, Universal's releasing The Jerk in a "26th Anniversary edition" on July 26th. There don't seem to be many features to speak of at all, but it is in 1.85 anamorphic widescreen, which is the important thing.

More details at DVD Answers.

It certainly does look to be slim on the extras, but as long as it's been released in Anamorphic, I'm in. This is one of only two MAR discs in my 800+ collection, and both are being re-released by Universal within weeks of each other. The other being Billy Wilder's "The Front Page".

This is great news. One of a handful of comedies I want that is missing from my collection because only a pan & scan version is available. I'll finally be able to view this again. Here's hoping other OAR versions of comedies come out also, such as Grumpy Old Men, Funny Farm, Kindergarten Cop, etc.

Now we need remastered OAR special editions of THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS and ALL OF ME, two of Steve's absolute best, which are currently available on DVD only in bare-bones P&S crapsville transfers made many years ago.

There was going to be a special packaging variation including a device for those of us who have trouble keeping our glasses on our noses, but apparently Universal's legal department put the kibosh on it due to potential side effects.

An anamorphic widescreen version of this film is all I need. Oh, and I need some extras, too. That's all I need, the anamorphic widescreen transfer and some extras. Oh, and I need good cover art, too. Just the anamorphic transfer, some extras, and cover art.

Sweet!! Extras would be nice, but in all honesty I do not care in the least. As long as I get a decent anamorphic widescreen transfer, then I am one happy guy!!! :emoji_thumbsup: :emoji_thumbsup:

The Jerk: 26th Anniversary Edition on 7/26 (SRP $19.98). The film will be available in anamorphic widescreen video, with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Extras will include the Learn How to Play "Tonight You Belong to Me" and The Lost Filmstrips of Father Carlos Las Vegas de Cordova featurettes, the film's theatrical trailer and production notes. Other extras are TBA.

Same here. Now I can retire my VHS. They should have included a limited edition thermos or a can of Shinola with it.

I am definately going to finally add The Jerk to my collection. I, like many others, had been putting off buying the full screen version.

Speaking of Steve Martin, has there been any word on a re-release of Parenthood? I have been hearing for years how funny it is but the DVD appears to be out of print. Could there maybe be a new widescreen version in the works for this one as well?

The lack of deleted scenes sucks, but the important thing is it's anamorphic with 5.1 audio. And it even has the trailer!

"Waiter! There are snails on her plate."

What other high-profile Universal titles have recently gone out-of-print only to be announced as new SE's? I know "Casino" and "The Jerk" both did, does that mean we'll be seeing new "Fletch" and "Blues Brothers" DVD's for their 20th and 25th anniversaries?

YAYYYY!!!!

I've been waiting for something better than the shinola P&S! A commentary with Reiner and Martin would be gravy, but I'm just glad to have it anamorphic. It's about time!
