With Universal in such chaos, I would not expect it anytime soon. Thank heavens for my LD.

It will come. It's a cash cow. Probably as part of the next "wave" of horror, although it would be more suited to a first wave of "sci-fi" classics. Universal sucks.

One of the best sci-fi movies ever made... It's a crying shame it's not yet available on DVD. My old VHS tape is crying out to be retired.

I would love to see it. Considering Universal is the worst studio for handling DVDs, who knows when it will come and HOW it will come.

Most likely it will be released to tie in with the Eddie Murphy remake scheduled for release later this year or the DVD release of same.

Why must we have horse manure remakes to get original versions of films released on DVD? I just have no good feelings about anything Universal does these days! Thank heavens for my LD.

Yeah, Universal needs to get in gear. We need not only THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, but the rest of their 1950s sci-fi collection (TARANTULA, THE MOLE PEOPLE, MONOLITH MONSTERS, THE LEECH WOMAN, MONSTER ON THE CAMPUS, etc... etc...)

Also the rest of their "Horror Legacy":
    THE BLACK CAT (1934)
    THE RAVEN (1935)
    THE INVISIBLE RAY (1936}
    BLACK FRIDAY (1940)
    ISLAND OF LOST SOULS (1933)
    MURDERS IN THE ZOO (1933)
    MAN MADE MONSTER (1941)
    HORROR ISLAND (1941)
MAD DOCTOR OF MARKET STREET (1942)
    THE BLACK CAT (1941)
    THE MAD GHOUL (1943)
    CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN (1943)
    JUNGLE WOMAN (1944)
    THE JUNGLE CAPTIVE (1945)
    HOUSE OF HORRORS (1946)
INNER SANCTUM SERIES WITH LON CHANEY (6 Films)

(these are titles just off the top of my head; there are others)

Those with multi-region players might like to know that both The Incredible Shrinking Man and Tarantula are being released in R2 come February (see here), but surely R1 releases can't be far off?

Ah yes, I remember buying the deluxe digest edition of this on Super 8mm back in the 70s. It was always a favorite, and will absolutely buy it when it hits DVD.

This is one of my most wanted DVDs. I'd love to have Tarantula too!

It's a point isn't it? The reason I haven't bought the R2 Double Indemnity is because I'm praying for a minor miracle and for the R1 to come stuffed with extras (and I also still believe in the tooth fairy).

Looking at the price point at www.play.com these will undoubtedly be barebones discs in R2; BTW anyone clocked the R2 release of The Heiress also noted in that link above?

It seems like a candidate for a Franchise Collection set along with Tarantula, It Came From Outer Space, Mole People, Deadly Mantis etc. They still yet to do The Golden Age of Sci Fi set. Perhaps sometime in 2006.

IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE is also being released in R2 next February, supported by a half-hour documentary called THE UNIVERSE ACCORDING TO UNIVERSAL.

This would further suggest that a boxset or franchise collection is on the way. The other Universal films scheduled for release that month are THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, TARANTULA and RETURN OF THE CREATURE. Not sure how (or if) that hangs together but that's the info for now.
