Taxi Driver & Fingers (sounds like a better match than T&L and Persona, I haven't seen T&L, but isn't the point that the women are friends shoutin' out their independence? That isn't the way I read Persona at all and don't see them as much of a match.)

Ikiru and The Crowd (unless there is a prohibition against voting for our own nominees)

Got to do a bit of Abstaining here.
Click on the links for God's sake! :p)

My votes:

Taxi Driver & Fingers

If I liked Thelma and Louise more, it'd be a tougher call.

Ikiru & The Crowd

Love Ikiru and very much want to see The Crowd.

Spirited Away & Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - quite easily as I admire both films, though I don't quite see the connection other than both are fantasy films.

No ITMFL though I did like Chungking Express & no S&L as I don't care much for Woody these days. Brief Encounter is the least appealing of the Lean films I've seen. La Strada is one of Fellini's better films though not my favorite.

Abstain

Lawrence of Arabia & Do the Right Thing - nothing in common here but LOA is easily the best of this bunch.

Just for fun round:

Lawrence of Arabia & Do The Right Thing - Nothing in common? Both film's casts have to deal with extreme heat. :)

I don't either but I was pleasantly surprised by Sweet and Lowdown - I daresay it's Woody's best film in years. Both Sean Penn and Samantha Morton (Minority Report and Jesus' Son) are very good.

Up In Smoke / Half-Baked

abstain (don't care)

Cries And Whispers / Blow Up-I would LOVE to finally get a chance to watch Lawrence, but the agony of having to sit thru Right Thing again makes this an easy vote.

Trekkies and then Galaxy Quest should be on the ballot. Although Trekkies is very cringe-worthy, I've done this and it's a great double-bill.

Here's my connection. These two films are both about a journey of the soul. Both are done extremely well, and both never fail to move me. Other areas they relate (although not why I picked them together) : Both feature a young "spoiled" girl who enters a position that forces her to mature, both are downright stunning to look at, uh..um....eh...OH, both have dragons. Sure one is seen and one is implied, but it's there. And there's...uh..erm..oh okay. Maybe there isn't a big connection, but it's still two I'd like to watch back-to-back.

My votes:

Spirited Away & Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

ABSTAIN!!!

I'm voting on the basis of which double feature I would be more inclined to see...

Up in Smoke & Half-Baked

I really enjoyed what I saw of Spirited Away, though it was late and there was beer, so I fell asleep. On the other hand, I don't ever intend to sit through Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon again. Once was painful enough.

Spirited/Crouching (I haven't seen either head film, so this is just based on how much I like the films I voted for)

In The Mood For Love/Brief Encounter (Excellent pairing and a strong group of films, though La Strada is a lesser Fellini film for me. Up to and including S&L, I don't think Woody's filmmaking suffered at all. I like many of his 90's films just as much or more than some of the 80's films, it's the last 3 that have been of lower quality. I've heard the new one is supposed to be a bit more serious.)

Lawrence/Do The Right Thing (I haven't seen Blowup, but the other 3 are all fantastic. I think Do The Right Thing is the best of the 3.)
