Since there are so many existing threads inquiring whether or not a particular cartoon series is or will become available on DVD in the near future, I thought it would be a good idea and referance source, to compile a complete listing of all current animated television series.

Below is a definitive listing of ALL known animated series and specials or TV films, (including claymation, stop-motion, puppet and other), of the 1980's from both R1 NTSC and subsequently, UK/FR R2 PAL where otherwise unavailable...

I'll be doing this for each decade - following the 70's, 60's and I'll finnish off with the early 90's (Bucky O'hare, Pirates Of Dark Water, Bobby's World, Spielberg toons, etc).

The decision to include a show is based on the year in which each series first broadcast and ran through, so regardless of whether an episode might be derived from 1979 or 1991 - if the series aired primarily in the 80's or first broadcast in '89, etc. I have included it in the following list.

I've also included a listing below of some other favorites yet to be released in R1, from popular and memorable cartoons to obcure specials and forgotten short-lived series as well as rumored releases.

Feel free to add on to this thread & be sure to post comments on what other 80's cartoon shows you'd like to eventually see on DVD - What you think of current releases, what you'd like to see with future releases of current sets and everything else related to 1980's cartoons & the DVD medium, including specific series!

This is the definitive 80's animated DVD discussion thread!!![/c]

Recent rumors suggest that A&E picked up the licensing rights to Danger Mouse here in the U.S. which means we're likely to see some DVD sets in the near future!

Still waiting to see what's happening with the Filmation library that was recently aquired by Entertainment Rights and the likes of Voltron and He-Man, etc. have been floating around the rumor mill for far too long... weren't these both announced at the Comic Con last year?

If anyone has any information on Morningstar Ent. and upcoming "Raccoons" discs, please post because it seems that various e-tailers have 3 new volumes (# 4-6) listed as well as a "series 2" box-set much like the context of the first release.

I've yet to hear any official announcements however and it appears as though all online shops are either backordered or haven't recieved product because it's past the given release date and not only are these titles absent from every retailer - but cover art hasn't even surfaced yet!

I have no idea what's going on with Morningstar, they seem to be extremely sloppy and unorganized when it comes to release dates and announcements - they had previously issued press statements that a double-feature of the Raccoons holiday specials were to be released last October alongside the individual and box-set issues and after almost 3 entire months pre-ordered without any word from the company or online stores, I decided to call up disgrunteled and inquire what was going on... and sure enough, they had no such a release planned.

I'm guessing this might be a similair situation but it's almost impossible to get any definite information from their customer service contact...

What about the Thundercats and Silverhawks' sister show, TigerSharks ? :) It was a segment, with 3 other cartoons (Karate Kat, Street Frogs & The Mini-Monsters), on the series The Comic Strip.

Another show I remember (although embarrased to admit I watched with some regularity) was called Maple Town. It was one of the series that rode the wave of Care Bears popularity for cuddly anthropomorphic critters. Basically a soap-operish village made of animals, where the children would get into all sorts of trouble. I believe the other popular show/toy in this class was Sylvanian Families.

Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue was actually 1990, but I consider it solely responsible for every drug I haven't used.

What about the Saturday Supercade cartoons? I saw Pac Man up there, but wasn't there a Q-Bert one as well? I forgot the others. Rubix might have been a part of it. I think there was also Donkey Kong.

There was also a "Pole Position" cartoon, but I think that was something on its own

What about Kidd Video? If I remember correctly, the storyline was some kid at home getting sucked into a "music video" and he's transported into this "bad drug haulcination" of an alternate world. I remember he had a couple of friends he made in the world and had to defeat an evil promoter. That and the bright, crazy colors made my head hurt :b

Hey, 4 Episodes of It's Punky Brewster are on the Punky Brewster Season 1 set and more episodes of the artoon will be in future sets. You are missing The Littles DVD titles Here Come(s) the Littles and The Littles Christmas Special. The former is a movie of sorts, but it was part of the ABC Weekend Special often and the latter are four episodes of the tv series. Also Dic has released ProStars on DVD.

Okay, first off, how could I forget the Saturday Supercade!

Also adding Prostars, The Littles and Punky Brewster to the list of releases.

I have no clue what Kidd Video is but it sounds awesome, that's being added to the wishlist along with Thundarr!

requests for Maple Town and TigerSharks as well... so much for realism! :)

Tory, to answer all your questions:

1) The Raccoons were released by a small independant production media company called "Morningstar Entertainment" which has exclusive distribution rights in Canada which is why you wouldn't have come accross these titles in retail.

You might be confused by what you find listed at most online retailers cause as previously mentioned, Morningstar seems to be very sloppy and disorganized when it comes to their catalogue and are consistently behind street date and issuing press statements on proposed titles which never come to fruition so while you might see 10 different releases online, at least half are either non-existant or since cancelled before production. I'll clarify exactly what's been released to date:

- 3 individual volume, single-disc releases (Vol. 1, 2 & 3)

- 1 box-set compiling all 3 above-mentioned individual volumes

You can order from most Canadian e-tailers online, i.e. Amazon.Ca, DVDSoon.com or the best option imo - CBC Shop Online as they not only offer the best prices but you can also see pictures of the set and individual titles via the following link:

http://www.cbcshop.ca/CBC/shopping/p...DE1&lang=en-CA

Again, many online sellers such as Amazon.ca are still listing The Raccoons double-feature title, which was a proposed release given a street date of last October set to contain both the "Raccoons On Ice" and "Christmas Raccoons" television specials. This has since been cancelled and I'm not sure why. It's too bad because I was really looking forward to this disc especially, more so than the actual TV episodes! In any event, avoid ordering this item as it will sit in your account backordered for months as happened to me and you'll be wasting your time and money.

Also, I have no idea what this means, but apparently - 3 "new" individual volumes of The Raccoons are now being shown at both Amazon.ca, Videomatica.com and a couple other retailers online. They are being titled "Vols. 4, 5 & 6" and another box-set is also being listed which like the first, apparently contains all 3 of these proposed new individual discs.

I've emailed Morninstar regarding this and have yet to recieve any responses but will try to put a phone call in this afternoon. Given their track record, there's really no way of knowing what this information means at this point so for now and as far as I know - only the 3 individual discs and box-set are available.

You can find their website at http://www.morningstarentertainment.com though it's quite outdated in terms of news and added relese info, etc. It basically offers nothing.

2) As far as the R2 She-Ra box-sets are concerned, you can find them at several online retailers which I'm sure a Google search would turn up, including: http://www.rueducommerce.fr/Films-DV...r-partie-1.htm

As far as I know there are no available English language tracks or subtitles for this or the French MOTU sets.

3) There are no available English language tracks or subtitles for any of The Smurfs releases either, unfortunately. Hopefully these will come to R1 soon because it has always been one of my all-time favorite animated children's series growing up and I'd love to see them again!

Hope that answered some of your questions.

:)

Strange... I just called and spoke to someone from Morningstar Entertainment and they are actually based out of Burbank California. I wonder how they would have released these discs exclusively in Canada if that's the case? I hope I have the right company information because I was told that there's another Morningstar based out of Orange County but I'm almost positive that this is the one. The person I spoke with was extremely nice and helpful but had absolutely no idea as to what I was talking about. He took down my contact information though and will pass it along to his boss, the owner of the company, who I've been told is the only person that would have the information I'm looking for. I'm expecting a call back early this afternoon so hopefully I'll get a definitive word on these newly listed items as well as the cancelled double-feature and whether it will be making it's way back into production anytime soon. Post more info as it becomes available...

For completeness, I should point out that there is already a Galaxy Rangers DVD out in the UK. It's not much - 2 episodes, but it is there.

Also, you might want include the limited edition Speed Racer boxed set from a couple of years ago.

Speaking of Anime, you also forgot Robotech and the three seasons of Star Blazers.

Oh - it wasnt animated, but it was a kids show in the 80's: Starcade (the one where two kids would try and get a top score at several arcade games for the grand prize: their own arcade game!) That show, if you want to include it, is currently out on disc, avaiable from Starcade.tv

Tony, I'm only including other region titles where they're otherwise unavailable or if there's a significant upgrade. There's many I haven't listed, just as there are some R1 titles I've left out because they've been outdated by newer or more complete issues, sets, etc. I figured it would be a good referance and source for people to voice requests as well as discuss shows or recent releases, etc. because it would be fun to see how many of the titles on the wishlist are still up there in a year from now. I expect that we'll see a good number available between now and this time next year.

Good call on Rock N' Roll Wrestling, Russel! I really hope DIC puts out a compilation disc like they did with ProStars...

Ok, fair enough - I thought you might want to list Galaxy Rangers since the R1 is still only pending, and the R2 version is actualy out now.

'Sides, the Robotech and Star Blazers listings are valid.

***edit***
Forgot one - the Mister T cartoon! The odds of it getting released are slim to none, but I'd love to see it get the light of day.

Ok, I don't see the Shirt Tales on there... Maybe I'm blind, but I'd love to have Rick, Pam, Bogey, Digger and the crew on DVD, for old times sake...

They were the reason I lost the innocence of my youth. I discovered the little stuffed versions of these guys in a big plastic bag when I was about 8, and SURPRISE!!! - The same ones turned up under the Xmas tree two days later.

I was a bit shocked about Santa (you know, having a 'deal' with my parents and all), but I still ended up beating the crud out of my little brother so I could get downstairs first to get the Digger and Bogey dolls!!!! Ah... Memories.... :D

Nice to know the actual title of my beloved Rock'n wrestling cartoon! :b

I was never a fan, but a DVD of "Bionic 6" would give a friend of mine the total cream jeans supreme. I think it was mid to late 80's (around the time of MASK)

This doesn't fall in this era, but damn, I'd kill for a complete set of "Hercules", with the Johnny Nash theme. There was a time where it was on for about 6 hours every week locally, but now it's impossible to find.
