I watched my old disc of The Cable Guy last night and saw something strange. On the menu, when I went to the subtitle sub-menu, the screen on my tv went black (i.e. the menu background disappeared). However, when I moved the buttons on the remote, the selection for languages would appear and be highlighted. I flipped the disc over to the Pan & Scan side and that subtitle sub-menu did the exact same thing. I tried it on another DVD player and the same thing occurred (both of my players are Sony brand).

Anyone else have this happen with their disc (I'm thinking its just a software compatability issue with my Sony players)?

I have that exact same problem on some columbia discs and Universal (BTTF) when playing them with Powerdvd on my PC (and Toshiba and TEAC DVDRom).

it happens for audio and subtitles and also for some special features menus, but I get around it on those titles by using a different software to play the extras (and select audio via remote or guess position of cursor)

edit I don't own cable guy, so cannot comment about that specific title.
