Harry Potter advances. Jeepers, if I get 5 abstentions on something as common as HP/Flightplan, I'm wondering if this is even going to work.

Thanks for screwing up the vote Tyler [IMG] ... I'll leave this open for now and maybe flip a coin or something down the road. Any idea when Darwin's Nightmare is coming out on R1 DVD?

    Batman Begins

    Vs.

    Bewitched

    Madagascar

    Vs.

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

    Darwin's Nightmare
    vs.
    Dark Water

    Continues tied 1-1

Well, that's what you get for putting in all these popular films. Gosh! [IMG]

Have no idea about the R1 release of Darwin's Nightmare, but I very much doubt that Dark Water is better (unless Jennifer gets naked in it). Perhaps Nicheflix has DN?

    Well, f--k a duck.

    Double-Abstain once again.

Not much interest in seeing Bewitched or Madagascar...

Well, I'm following along, but getting the feeling there won't be a single pairing I will be able to vote in.

R1: "Batman Begins" is easily better than "Bewitched" (yeah, I saw it), but not good enough to get my vote. Abstain.

R2: Wallace and Grommit's latest adventure is phenomenal, but I didn't see "Madagascar" (never even heard of it). So, abstain.

    R3: "Darwin's Nightmare" by a freakin' mile.

Since I missed the nominating period, I've got no one to blame but myself -- but count me as very disappointed that "Yes" didn't make the list. I may be the only person in the world who loved it (well, Jonathan Rosenbaum counts, too, I guess), but I really loved it.

ps Oh, and sorry about screwing up the voting my friend dragged me to see Darwin, so I went into that one not wanting to watch it. Abstaining from the tie breaker

It was not that long ago, when complaints were lodged that obscure foreign and independent films had an advantage over mainstream movies due to the voter preference (of those who had actually seen those films).

In this case it seems that almost no one (including me) has seen the mainstream movies.

I suspect a lot of people are like me. They have seen a selection of both independents and mainstream, but not enough of both to vote in most rounds. I mean, when Steve can't vote, that's a problem.

Saw it and liked it, but it didn't cross my mind. Doh.

As far as the mainstream movies on the list, I've pretty much seen the ones I want to see. Not that I'm opposed to seeing most of the others, but they're pretty far down on the list.

Well, I think 128 films was just too ambitious, probably would work better with a trimmer, more nomination drawn lineup. I'll just try to hurry through these so hopefully the later rounds will see more action.

I wanted to spruce this up with images but I'm an idiot and can't get it to work,

Oh and don't sweat it Tyler. I was kidding, plus Rich came through and broke the tie.

Rich, I haven't seen Yes so it wasn't on my initial list. I do have it in the queue at Netflix, just haven't gotten to it.

    Darwin's Nightmare advances 2-1

Batman Begins advances 2-1 with my tiebreaking vote. I didn't expect it to be that close.

    Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit advances 3-0, which would have been my vote as well. Madagascar should be ground into paste, because not only did I have to sit through it, I had to hear my son sing the "Move it, Move it" song for 2 months afterwards. And now since I mentioned it I'm going to have that song stuck in my head all day. Then again, it was still better than Shark Tail. {shiver}

    Round #1 Continues

    3-Iron
    vs.
    5x2

    In Her Shoes
    vs.
    Melinda and Melinda

    Saw 2
    vs.
    High Tension

    War of the Worlds
    vs.
    Lord of War

SteveGon, you liked "Yes", too? I guess I'm not totally alone! Actually, my wife was really taken by it, too. Unfortunately, everyone I've since recommended it to (all casual movie fans) were less than thrilled, but no one heaped huge negative criticism as did the critical establishment (save certain notable exceptions like Rosenbaum). Looking forward to hearing what you think, Brook!

R1: The first round here is giving me fits... I like both films very much and about equally. I'll give the edge to Ozon, as his body of work in total has impressed me more. CinqFoisDeux!

    R2: abstain

    R3: High Tension

    R4: War of the Worlds

3-Iron - Liked both, found this one a tad more interesting.

Abstain - M&M slipped under my radar - I'll have to rent it sometime.

Abstain - Though Saw was overrated, no interest in seeing part two.

Abstain - No LOW, I'll rent it one of these days.

I'll watch just about anything with Joan Allen. [IMG]

High Tension - Slightly less crappy of the pointless retreads

Lord of War - Aside from the scene where the aliens first appear, not sure WoW has much to offer, other than Cruise greasing his ego. I mean, the mechanic asking him how to fix the car is a classic touch of self-obsession.
