TCM has probably done this before but its cool to see HTWWW in smilebox on TCM. A lot better than UPHD which is showing all movies in cropped full screen.

UPHD had The Greatest Story Ever Told (should be 2.76:1) in 1.77:1 a few days ago. Right now Barabbas in full screen.

Yes, this looked really cool. Would love to see 2001---GRAND PRIX---MAD WORLD in smilebox.

Sadly Fox Movie Channel is showing CinemaScope films it use to show letterboxed at the new fools screen 1.77. An example is the Story of Rurh. Last December it was letterboxed, recently it was at 1.77.

What was the "rule" -- or what started the practice, for channels to put up the disclaimer that "the following movie has been formatted to fit your screen"?

They should be doing the same damned thing right now for 16x9 screens!

In fact, they should be required to put it in plain English for Joe Sixpack: "X percent of the image of this widescreen movie has been cut off to enable us to fit the movie on your new widescreen TV without black bars."

I wonder how smilebox would look on the new current curve screened UHD sets, and the OLED screens of the near future?

Any hope we can someday get "The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm" restored and presented in the Smilebox format?
