Subwoofer Amplifier for TC sounds LMS 5400 ultra 18" for 240v (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone,so i got a 18" TC sounds LMS ultra, and am getting a custom made box made up for it.but i've hit a bit of a snag in terms of what amplifier to get. i was really wanting to get a plate amplifier... but the only one i could find that had more than 1000w RMS was over $2000.so far the most powerful amp i've found has been a Dayton Audio amplifier. unless i go for a Behringer EP/EPX4000 or a inuke3000.i live in Australia, and so said amplifier needs to be able to work on 240vany suggestions on what to get to power this beast of a subwoofer?

iNuke 3000 DSP. If your custom box is ported, then it has an SSF that is fully adjustable down to 20hz. From there, you can trick it down to 14hz but maybe even lower. If you have a dual 2 ohm version of the LMS, then you will get about 2,200w from the iNuke.

From what I understood the behringer EP4000 is a much much better amplifier .... Does the dsp really make up for the loss of a linear power supply and 1000w less power?I have the dual 2 ohm, and it will be in a 4 cubic feet sealed box.

The EP-4000 is a rebadged EP-2500. Based on real-world testing, the 2500/4000 puts out about 800w/channel into 2 ohms. The iNuke 3000 puts out about 1,100w/channel into 2 ohms. I use an EP-2500 running at 2 ohms stereo to power a pair of TC Sounds TC-3000 15" subs in sealed, 3 cubic foot boxes. I also use a Behringer Feedback Destroyer to tame in inductance peak at 54hz as well as a few room issues. The iNuke DSP series combines the EQ of the BFD with a more powerful amp and a subsonic filter (necessary for ported subs) into a great little package.

i've attached a couple of photos of my theatre currently so you're saying that the inuke puts out slightly more power??my main issue with the inuke, is it doens't have speaker terminal outputs, nor does it have 1/4" inputs.... only has XLR and Speakeon. how hard is it to adapt those plugs? and does the inuke have enough gain to reach its clipping point on a maxed out RCA line output from a receiver? or would i need a box between them to raise the voltage point, like a DJ mixer sort of thing?

From what I've read over at AVS, the iNuke has no problems with any of the current receivers. There are some older Denon models (I think it's Denon) that don't have enough voltage on the sub out. But if a receiver won't work with an iNuke, then it won't work with any Behringer amps.

Page 5 of the iNuke owner's manual clearly states that the inputs can be XLR, balanced 1/4" TRS or unbalanced 1/4" TS. I'm running unbalanced 1/4" on my EP-2500 using a $3 cable from Radio Shack that has an RCA on one end and a 1/4" mono plug on the other. Nothing special at all.

The speaker connections look easy once you have the proper Speakon plugs. There are dozens of sites and videos covering how to properly wire them up. Yes, the EP series is easier since you can just use bare wire on the terminals.

What's the sub on the right? It sort of looks like the cone on the short run of TC Sounds 12" OEM subs.

Going 1/4/Speakon/XLR to "bare wire" is no biggie.

What I usually suggest is buying the one that connects to the amp itself and cutting the other end plug off. Then it is merely figuring out which two aren't the "ground"(takes like 2 minutes).

Wire up a Speakon on the box...

the sub on the right was a Fusion FPW-1500 15" where i had to fix up the dust cap. got it quite cheap, so wasn't complaining. it was my first subwoofer for my home theatre.ahhh right, well in that case i'll just see if we have any speakeon connectors at work, and work out how to wire it up.and i think i have some 1/4" to RCA adapter plugs at home somewhere.going down tommorrow to get the box for this sub made up going to cost a small fortune, but will look amazing!

Make sure they brace the heck out of it. That sub is like a jack-hammer when the cone is moving back and forth.

getting lots and lots bracing with 32mm MDF, and nice gloss santos palisander finish.i showed the guy who's making the box the driver, so he understood just what i was putting in the box.should be done in 2 weeks.sounds like inuke 3000DSP is going to be what i'm going to end up getting... the equivelant model by crown is $1500 :/ dont quite have that kind of cash to throw around on the amp for it.

ordered a Crown XTI4002 in the end managed to find it for $1400 instead of $1900 and figured i might as well spend the extra.the guy who's making the box said it would take 2 weeks to lay the veneer into the timber, and another 10 days to make the box after that.cant wait to get it all together its going to look AMAZING

It sounds like you are going for a furniture grade finish. I went rattle can spray paint on my speakers. Rustoleum Hammered Metal will cover a lot of imperfections in the surface. I was going to attempt an automotive grade finish but the weather would have delayed painting for a few months.

Since you have a super sub, you might as well spend the money for a proper amp.

Post pictures and a review when you get it connected and dialed in.

box is well on its way should have it in my hands in a weeks the last photo, is with its first coat. there are another 2 sealing coats, and 2 gloss coats to be applied

Solid bracing and a great finish. It will still sound better than it looks. That sub, like all other TC Sounds subs, is incredible.

once its all together i'll post a review of it, and a "build log" instead of an advice forum the box is being made by John woodhead, in moorabbin, melbourne, Australia. he makes the speaker boxes for Osborn speakers.i'll also upload scans of the manual for the TC sounds LMS ultra, because the dimensions for it arn't anywhere online, not even on the TC sounds website.cant wait to get it all together!! the black driver and a black aluminium bindingpost plate on the back in that rich timber box is going to look STUNNING!!!most likley going to get more speakers made out of the same timber in the future

oh its amazing!!!! at normal listening volumes, there isn't even any delay in the bass notes. it sounds like its coming staight from the main speakers.but once its moving about 2 inches, there starts to be a SLIGHT lag, but wow, it sounds amazing.oh and i did end up buying the XTI4002 amplifier, i've tested it at 3200w RMS, all the way down to 30hz, i havn't tested below that yet. but will get on it soon.i have noticed just how much the sealed box detrements the lower end. if i had my time again i would go with a slot port. however i have DSP, so i can equalise it so its completely flat
