I am wanting to put 2 of them in my 1800 cu sf room. I have a great deal on 2 used. Is this a case of more isn't always better?

They have volume controls. The phrase "sub overkill" does not compute...

Multiple subs are more about acheiving a flatter frequency response and a greater sweet spot, not so much about what is required to pressurize the room. There are many informative articles on the benefits of multiple sub systems, did you google it?
