I'll add my own personal take into this...which is from 20+ years ago.
I left HS on an imaginative bent. I was sure I was going to take IU by storm and become the next Ansel Adams. I met the guy once at a film outing in the 70s when my father and I had the "new" Canon cameras. There I was, 8 years old...and had no clue who the guy was helping me arrange a shot.
Transwarp 10 years...
First art class full of "people like me"...
The first day of class(for photography students) was learning all the "if you take a picture of this...it is an immediate 'fail the class'".

Grand Canyon
Hoover Dam
Several fountains on campus
and on and on...
Two years later I swapped to film archiving. If that hard for still photog...
