I'm going to Jim's house for Halloween! But not for the certain tightness in his trousers. Don't pull any funny stuff, pal. It's just I don't have a Bluray player yet and Halloween is my favorite horror flick! Tied with Night of the Living Dead, actually. Speaking of which, couldn't anyone who wanted to release Night on HD-DVD or Bluray as the film has no copyright on it? Someone needs to get on that!

Cheers,

Jason

This is correct. Disney will not allow their titles to be replicated in any facility that replicates pornographic films, and if this film would have been considered such, Sony would have to choose between Synapse or Disney. An easy choice for them.

Wow is that kinda like a vegan who won't eat where meet has been prepared? Or like keeping kosher? :D

Edit: No need to respond. I realize that Disney does it so that there is NO chance that porn will accidentally wind up in one of their products.

Any fellow Halloween fan is welcome in my house Jason. No funny stuff. ;)

I think the problem with Night of the Living Dead is that incentive to put money behind a quality HD transfer is low because it's in the Public Domain. Anybody can release this title. Pure speculation of course.

Night is a genuine classic and I'd pick it up on HD if it were available but call me a heretic as I prefer Dawn and Day of the Dead. I pretend Land of the Dead doesn't exist. :D

Most would consider Dawn of the Dead their favorite. So you're in good company. But I still enjoy Night better. The whole claustrophobic feeling really upped the tension for me and the overall sense of dread. I'm also a sucker for B+W photography. What's funny is the first time I saw Dawn I was so disappointed. I didn't like it. Somehow I thought it lost much of what Night created due to the larger scale. Over the years I've come to appreciate it much more.

Cheers,

Jason

I wonder when we will ever see Night ported over to HD - I doubt my Elite Millennium Edition gets retired for quite some time. I still need to pick up the Land HD-DVD (it's nowhere near the level of the first three, but it's a George Romero zombie movie I actually got to see in theaters, which is something I never thought I'd be able to say).

For what it's worth, I received this email today:

I've encouraged my friends at somel of the more predominant horror websites on the Internet to drop them emails sharing the same sentiment.

It may not amount to much, but at least Anchor Bay/Starz knows that there are consumers out there who won't be giving them money until the support both formats.

Oh Fu*k. Now I might have to buy a BluRay Player! A non-Sony player, of course - but I was really trying to stay HD DVD exclusive.

agreed. I find "Night", sometimes stiff acting notwithstanding, to be far superior to "Dawn".
Night is actually scary and VERY eerie.
"Dawn is just".... a bit too cartoonish looking and IMHO hammers the viewer over the head with a very unsubtle social commentary.
The people are dead and they still go to the mall.... Ok. What else ya' got..?

And GASP! (HERESY!) I found the remake much better.

Here come the flames...!!!!

I'm on my way! Just hold on TRAVIS!!! I'M ON MY WAYYYYY!!!!!

CLEAR! BZZZZZZZZZ!

Thank god. We almost lost you, Travis. Good to have you back. You love HD-DVD. You love HD-DVD. Purchase only HD-DVDs. Toshiba is your friend. Bluray was devised by the DEVIL! HD-DVD is your savior. It walked on water and made lunch for those in need.

Hey - why not take advantage when you can? :)

Cheers,

Jason

Hey, all I'm saying is that I felt that Dawn is overrated.
I think it's clumsy, amateurish, wooden acting and the much touted Savini gore (and I LOVE Savini and a friend of mine was in "The Burning" and said he was really cool...) was way too unrealistic and cartoony looking.
It's not scary, the "social commentary" is about as subtle as flying plate glass (Ok, we get it. People go to the mall even after they're dead because basically people are zombies even when they're alive. My 9 year old niece could have come up with that idea...) and I prefer "Night" much more. That film still creeps me out.
The new "dawn" did what it set out to do more effectively I thought. It was a rollercoaster and a helluva ride. Stephen King (who is a good friend of Romero) loved it and had it in his to 10 films of the year.
The original Dawn kinda bores me. The first time or two, yes it was shocking.
But after that..... meh.

Just my opinion which I am damn entitled to.

This sounds much more like a description of Night of the Living Dead to me. Though I do admire it's qualities.

FWIW - I also like the remake of Dawn for the pure visceral experience.

True, Night does exhibit much of that too. But it was the first film for all of them, was shot in bits and pieces when the latent image co. was not doing commercials and yet it looks alot eerier and is actually rather unsettling still. The film also broke alot of taboos at the time.
Dawn is just a step down IMHO. It's famous for it's over the top gore, (which looks pretty bad IMHO, (and I love Savini) and it's somewhat famous observation that people even when alive are "zombies", consumers...
Take out the "social commentary" and it is a rather dull, awkwardly made film that just IMHO is overrated.

and yes, I just meant for a pure rollercoaster ride. The new Dawn succeeds surprisingly well. The original doesn't do what it intended to do nearly as well...

I have to agree with Dave on this one. "Dawn" is a Yawn , at least the original version. I saw "Night of the Living Dead" when I was really young,About 6 years old and IT scared the Hell outta Me. Later in My life I saw "Day of the Dead". I still get creeped out by that underground tunnel where you can hear them groaning, but can't always see them,Eerie. Anyway, about 8 years ago I finally got to see "Dawn of the Dead". I was expecting great things since It was heralded as A modern classic which surpasses the original and the third by far.....Yeah Right! A Fucking mall is exactly where I would hold up at the end of civilization. Come on! If that's not enough, through all the carnage and bloodshed and Their friend dying,They manage to have time for an intimate, romantic dinner ? One word describes this film=OVERRATED!

Let's face it Troy, your cat pic is eerier and creepier than anything found in Dawn!

Man, the original Dawn of the Dead is my favorite film of all time...you guys are KILLING me with all of the hate. :frowning:

I wish we could swap releases: I'd gladly trade the 2004 remake to Blu and take the real film on HD DVD.

I don't hate. Honest. I still think it's a good film, I just think it's rep is a little overblown if you really look at it objectively. Sorry.
