I just assumed they ran out of things they could shoot without Harrison Ford. Plus, they probably took the time off to start editing what they had so they could see what 'missing' footage they could get now rather than when they do reshoots.

And they are not filming Episode VII at all. They are actually filming the extra scenes for The Prequel Trilogy Special Edition with Ford playing a young Han Solo.
