I meant a return to beat up spaceships and carbon scored droids. I wasn't suggesting they go back to Tatooine again. Unless Luke has established a Jedi Knight School there. :D

It's gotta be real but I think the question is what is that technology for? It looks like a video game to me. Or maybe they'll use it on the upcoming Rebels animated series. Even if LFL or Disney has developed it for feature film use, I can't believe that J.J. Abrams- who still shoots on 35mm film- has any interest in using it for Episode VII.

Oh, that couldn't have been for a feature film. Looks like a game to me. Still, interesting technology, and likely to lead to more CGI in the future, not less. (FWIW, Abrams has said he'd like to err on the side of special effects used in the OT.)

One more step towards Looker. Shouldn't be too much longer once they learn to render with realistic textures instead of the still too smooth too shiny looking ones.

So they're basically doing what Machinima makers have been doing for years?

This says JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan are writing the script now. Official:

    http://starwars.com/news/master-filmmaking-team-announced-for-star-wars.html

The assumption is that Michael Arndt has left the project:

    http://www.starwarsunderworld.com/2013/10/jj-abrams-lawrence-kasdan-now-writing.html

The official site says shooting will begin in spring 2014 for release in 2015.

As the latest Rinzler book has taught me: Shooting for Return of the Jedi started early in 1982 for a May 1983 release.

Worse than I thought. This says Abrams & Kasdan will be writing the script from square one, meaning a different film with different characters from what Arndt was doing. That's kinda what I was afraid of.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/24/michael-arndt-star-wars-episode-vii_n_4158684.htmlI don't like Abrams involvement in every aspect of the movie. That says to me he'll be involved in VIII and IX too.

Let's keep in mind that the sole source of information saying that they've tossed the script is a nameless source cited by a jealous bitch on a movie nerd website.

Yeah this is not good. Abrams is not good with story telling. He should only direct.

I actually hope that the problems force him to leave the project.

And he's co-writing with the guy who wrote Raiders Of The Lost Ark. I think it will be OK.

JJ is here to stay. And according to Deadline, they are now stepping in to build on Arndt's script according to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. All good IMO.

Rumors schumors, wake me when we actually get a photo of Mark Hamill in his jedi outfit, or something else tangible. ;)

Disney is firm on a 2015 release for Episode VII:

    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/star-wars-episode-vii-disney-651482
I'm kinda glad Disney is being this firm. Abrams delayed both Star Trek (2009) and Into Darkness (2013). Although the article says he's more in sync with Disney's '15 plan than Kennedy, I find that hard to swallow. Sounds like the production is taking a toll on those involved. I've been reading Rinzler's Making of Return of the Jedi book and about how that production of a highly anticipated film did the same to its director and crew.

Me too. Sometimes pressure and time constraints are good. Just dive in and do the best you can with the time you have. That being said, I have a feeling that they're going to get a point where Disney will have a choice between putting a movie out that still has animatics, storyboards, green screens and unfinished effects or waiting until the effects work is finished to release it.

I just hope the production doesn't get so rushed that we get an Alien 3 situation.
