There was something between Portman and Lloyd that could have grown had they waited for him to hit the right age. It looked like they actually liked each other. Hayden seemed like he couldn't stand her. They seemed miscast as a couple.

I saw her relationship with "young" Anakin as "hey, cute kid" not "hey, he'll be a hottie in a few years."
As for Portman's chemistry with her two co-stars, that's acting and she and the other actors were probably following Lucas' direction. In an interview I read, she said that although Jake was okay to get along with, she didn't have much in common with him or "hang out" with the lad as he was still "a kid", but she had a lot more fun working with Hayden, as he's a lot closer to her own age.
I think Lucas should re edit it and CGI some stuff and then re release it. Instead of Bea Arthur he could put someone like Britany Spears in. It would sell millions.
That's ironic, considering that I have a friend who's "in-the-know", and told me that the two of them were A LOT closer off-camera (if you know what I mean... ).
Maybe that explains why they had no chemistry on screen. They say that when relations are had the on screen / stage chemistry dies and everything seems awkward, but not in a good way.
I watched it for the first time last year and I gotta say, horrible stuff. I didn't mind Art Carney and it did give us a sense of life under Imperial Rule, but it definitely has more than a handful of cringeworthy moments. The cooking show, Grandpa watching Wookiee porn, Bea Arthur's Cantina, and that weird cult-like celebration at the end.
On the Definitive Collection LDs, there's a featurette which shows a Lumpy mask in the Lucasfilm archives, so maybe Lucas does own some of it?
I'd like to see the Boba Fett cartoon make it on the DVD though.
