Star Trek TMP : The Memory Wall? (1 Viewer)

I could swear that about five months ago in these threads (HTF) that someone gave a link that documented the "reconstruction" of this sequence that was to be reinserted into the new Directors version, but as I watch the supplements & listen to the commentary on the DVD it seems this was never intended to be finished for the new directors cut? What happened? As I recall the site that was linked in that older thread had a few photos of the Memory Wall scene reconstruction and was an official Star Trek web site...or was it?
Anyone have information on this?
