Would be nice if they bothered to remaster DIRTY DOZEN, but I'm sure this is the same transfer.

Never seen either of these films. I am assuming this is a necessary purchase.

I'd expressed the same sentiment to Warner back in October of last year.

One's Paramount and one's MGM. How are they paired together on one Blu-ray?

^ Warners owns The Dirty Dozen and they also distribute Paramount titles now.

Expect more such pairings as Warner now distributes a good portion of Paramount's library.

Let's hope so -- of titles that haven't already been released on Blu.

Two great movies which I saw on the big screen in my youth.

Will the Blu-ray include the audio commentary for STALAG 17 from the DVD featuring two of the original cast (Richard Erdman and Gil Stratton Jr.) and co-author of the original play, Donald Bevan?

And will there be a commentary for DIRTY DOZEN and, if so, featuring whom?

    Thanks.

The Dirty Dozen has a lot of long opticals, similar to The Great Escape. I don't think it will ever look like we wish it did.

At that MSRP, I seriously doubt it.

Am i alone in finding this a very odd coupling? One - Stalag 17 - a classic Billy Wilder dramatic film made with his usual cynicism and irony. The other - The Dirty Dozen - a typical Robert Aldrich action film with Boy's Own heroics. They may both be set during WWII but they could hardly be more different and I wouldn't have thought they appeal to the same audience.

Apart from that, I strongly associate a film with the studio that made it and I really dislike these double bill discs containing films from two different studios. it just doesn't seem right.

Either get used to it or get ready for a lot of dislike then.

Yeah, I think these double features are actually superb.

Matching films from two different studios is actually a great idea.

For instance, there's the double feature of The Ten Commandments
and Ben Hur. For someone not interested in the giant sets, what an
    unbelievable pairing.

No, the pairing is never going to be absolutely perfect, but it certainly
gives the opportunity for consumers to own two vaguely similar popular
films in one package at a great price.

Both films are excellent and Stalag 17 is one of the better features Holden ever made.

I tend to agree with Douglas R that this is actually a slightly odd pairing. But as long as the movies are also available individually, I don't have a problem with it. If anything, some of the people buying this release for the more recent The Dirty Dozen will also be exposed to an older classic.
