Culver City, Calif. (May 22, 2006) – The funniest jewel-heist film of all time is back when MGM Home Entertainment and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment release A Fish Called Wanda: Collector’s Edition as a 2-disc DVD set on August 1. Starring Monty Pythoners John Cleese (Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle) and Michael Palin (The Quest for the Holy Grail) with Jamie Lee Curtis (True Lies) and Kevin Kline (The Pink Panther) in his Oscar® winning performance, this wonderfully smart and entertaining film features an unparalleled comedic cast and was directed by Charles Crichton (“The Avengers”). Synopsis:

Four conniving jewel thieves...three Yorkshire terriers...two heaving bosoms and one proper British barrister. It all adds up to “a non-stop barrage of...outrageous plot twists and over-the top performances” (L.A. Weekly) when a girl called Wanda (Curtis) tries to deceive her Nietzche-quoting boyfriend (Kline), an animal-loving hit man (Palin) and an embarrassment-prone counselor (Cleese) out of a fortune in jewels.

Good to see that this is back on the release schedule after I sold my original copy when it was announced last time. Hopefully, it'llk stay that way.

Now we need to get a release date for Erik the Viking as well.

and an anamorphic widescreen Fierce Creatures with the same cast as AFCW. I traded my copy AFCW away over a year ago because this was supposed to be out last year. I will be very glad to have it.

Great news! The only thing that could possibly make this any better would be the inclusion of Cleese's hilarious Schweppes ad from the front end of the original VHS release, poking fun at subliminal advertising.

Does this have anything extra that's not on the 2 disc set of the region 2 disc?

There seem to be a few differences.

The new R1 SE seems to have the following as new features
    · “Farewell Featurette: John Cleese”
    · Kulture Vulture Documentary
    · Trivia Track

Whereas the R2 SE had an
On Location feature which ran about 15 minutes
Also it had the alternate ending as a separate item in addition to the deleted and alternate scenes although I presume this will be part of the deleted and alternate scenes section on the R1 SE

Maybe it is same featurette that was called "John Cleese's First Farewell Performance" on the R2 edition? And the R2 has a trivia track too.

Perhaps due to MGM switching distribution from Sony to Fox? And if that is the case then we will probably see delays on other titles. (Still waiting on the new versions of the Leone/Eastwood titles.)

Dude! Can I cast my vote for worst studio early this year? There's little doubt it will be anyone other than Sony! [IMG]

This has nothing to do with Sony, and everything to do with MGM changing distribution to Fox.

    Brandon,

That's the widely assumed rationale, I grant you, but no one knows for sure. Regardless, I've got plenty of other reasons to give Sony the aforementioned honor. [IMG]

Awesome movie. It's about time this film received a decent DVD. And though it's not an absolutely stacked DVD in terms of extras, it's got a lot of Cleese. And that's a good thing.

Hopefully there won't be much lag time between the cancellation and FOX putting it out. I mean the DVD is obviously finished so I would assume all FOX needs to do is come up with new packaging and replace Sony with the FOX logo.

They didn't cancel Chuck Norris Collection boxset yet. Talk about priorities.
