I have 2 speakers in my living room. When I turn my amplifier on I get a hum out of them continuous and constant. I have a Jack which is RCA > 3.5mm the RCA is plugged to the amplifier and this Hum comes when the 3.5 Jack isn't plugged into anything as soon as I plug into my laptop the humming stops (the humming stops whether the laptop is charging or running on battery). The problem is with this hum is that it really heats up my tweeters and so far I have burnt to s**t 4 tweeters. The stench is unbearable. So what am I doing wrong and how can I fix it. I've already spent 50 pounds on new tweeters which I don't want to blow.

Also how do I measure the maximum wattage of my speakers so I can get an appropriate amplifier should I need to replace it?

Help, Apologies if I posted in the wrong section I was turn between here and the Receivers/Separates/Amps section
