I am looking for opinions on building the boxes for my next project with 1/2" Baltic Birch instead of 3/4". The boxes are small 7L 6.5x11x10.5 with a brace.

I wanted to use a locking miter joint on the corners and have run into the limit on shank diameter on the bit. My router is 1/4" collet, the bit to cut 3/4" material is a 1/2" shank. Trying to avoid buying a new router.

Thank you

Just buy a new collet. Most all routers will allow you to swap them out. They are only like $10.00.

make sure you got a decently powered router too. Those lock miter bits are mighty heavy and it takes some nut to spin them.

I almost wished I had something bigger then my PC 960 for my 1/2 shank MLCS lock miter, i did turn the speed down though.
