Grigory Chukhrai passed away of an apparent heart attack Sunday 28 October 2001 in a moscow Hospital.

Best know for the indredible film Ballad of a Soldier. A quick check to confirm, seems you can not get his films on DVD. A shame, some of them are remarkable, and I have always enjoyed viewing soviet era films.

In the Criterion chat last week, they announced that Ballad of a Soldier is in the works.
I'm very sorry to hear of his death.

really? That will be very intresting and definately be added to me LONG list of "must haves". I will have to check the Criterion chat again. I would have thought the titel would have jumped out at me...
