Sound Problem on Blade Runner DC (1 Viewer)

Did a search and couldn't find anything on this topic in the MANY BR threads.

I have the BR DC disk, which is supposed to be in Dolby Digital. However, once the movie begins my receiver switches to DPL-II. Regardless of what I try with both the receiver and the DVD player, I cannot get the sound in DD.

Anyone else have this problem on this disk? Is this a known quirk, or did I just get a bad disk?

Thanks!

Dolby Digital can contain anywhere from 1-5 channels of discrete sound

Blade Runner is in Dolby 2.0 stereo surround, so DPL is the proper format

Exactly.

if you look for this there are many "dolby digital" DVDs that will do the same thing...any of your DD DVDs that have 2.0 audio that's flagged for "ProLogic" playback will automatically kick your decoder into "ProLogic" mode. Some 2.0 DD DVDs are flagged for "stereo" and won't do this (some music titles are like this).

BTW, the forth-coming 3-disc Blade Runner DVDs will have glorious restored multi-channel 5.1 DD sound. That beautiful Vangelis score will be well served on the next DVD release...
