im looking to get a new dvd player just wondering if my sony will be able to do progressive scan.

If you want to watch dvd's in progressive scan your cheapest option is the new 32" Samsung EDTV. It can be found for as little as $600. Check around and you'll find it. It's a nice tv for that price.
