Following a comment made earlier in the thread, I'll go for the songs that evoke memories of a particular film even though they were not specifically written for that film:

"Moving in Stereo" by the Cars - "Fast Times at Ridgemont High"
"Any Way You Want IT" by Journey - "Caddyshack"

And just about every other song listed in this thread!

"Holiday Road" = ?
- Any Vacation movie

Who sings this?
Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac fame.

Great song.

John, great call on the Song #2 = Starship Troopers. One of the all-time great song uses in a trailer. More recently in the same vien we had Blinded by the Light in the Blow trailer used to perfection. And I'm pretty fond of how Who Are You is used in the Confessions of a Dangerous Mind trailer (they cut the song up perfectly).

Yes, the whole Rushmore soundtrack is tied to that film now.

"Everything in its right place" (Radiohead)--Vanilla Sky
Oh yeah. Also this film really locked in on Good Vibrations for me. The usage re-associated the song to the film from those Sunkist orange soda commercials (which was a pretty good usage too). Beach Boys were awesome.

What immediately came to mind:
I Say a Little Prayer from My Best Friend's Wedding.

In the same vein of thought...

I Don't Want to Wait by Paula Cole was already on the radio before Dawson's Creek picked it up. Now it is forever known as the Dawson's theme song.

What is Love by Haddaway will now forever bring images of bobbing heads in a club due to the SNL skit.

And I don't know how many times I hear a song and think, "Hey, isn't that a car commercial? What's it doing on the radio?" (Can anyone say, "Like a Rock"? I knew you could.)

I don't believe you guys haven't named "Purple Rain" and "Saturday Night Fever" two of the biggest songs in movie history.

And ahem.."Fight The Power" from Do The Right Thing.

I would say that A Clockwork Orange has permanent dibs on Singin' in the Rain for me. Even the brief clip in other movies, such as Leon don't fail to bring up that relationship.
