As I was sitting in my dentist's chair this afternoon ([IMG] ), the classical station that was on started playing "Flight of the Valkyries" by Wagner. As my eyes wandered to a child's drawing of a helicopter on the wall, I couldn't help but think of Apocalypse Now . I actually can't ever hear that piece without thinking of the movie.

I thought about it and realized that there are several songs/melodies which immediately make me think of a movie as soon as I hear it. Some of my others:

"American Girl" by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: The Silence of the Lambs
"Stuck in the Middle With You" by ? Reservoir Dogs
    Beethoven Fifth?:b--
    2001

Just about any song on the soundtrack of Pulp Fiction

"We'll Meet Again" by Vera Lynn: Dr. Strangelove

Was wondering what are some of your "song=movie" associations? By the way, songs written specifically for, or first introduced in a movie don't count. [IMG]

not sure if these count, with your restriction against "specifically written for or first introduced":

Take My Breath Away - Berlin - Top Gun
Fallen - Lauren Wood - Pretty Woman

don't know why these two seem so "tied up" with the respective movies.

    maybe:

Hot Stuff - Donna Summer - Full Monty
You Sexy Thing - Hot Chocolate - Full Monty
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen - Wayne's World (but that's a deliberate tribute, no?)
You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling - Cruise/Edwards - Top Gun

Purcell’s Funeral Music for Queen Mary – A Clockwork Orange
Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” – Say Anything

I bet if you heard anything but the first 2 minutes (the fanfare) of Also Sprach Zarathustra you wouldn’t associate it with 2001. The whole thing is about a half-hour long.

"This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush (covered by Maxwell) - She's Having A Baby

"The Sensual World" by Kate Bush - Felicia's Journey

"Everybody Wants To Rule The World" by Tears For Fears - Real Genius

"You Took Advantage of Me" - by Carmen McRae - Real Genius

Any song that was used in Moulin Rouge. Even songs I didn't particularly care for, I now have a soft spot because they were in that movie.

Any Mozart - Amadeus (or sometimes, Trading Places)

Any Chopin, now - The Pianist

The song "Brazil" by anybody - Brazil

    I'll second:
"Stuck in the Middle With You" by Steelers Wheel Reservoir Dogs

    and:

Hot Stuff - Donna Summer - Full Monty
You Sexy Thing - Hot Chocolate - Full Monty

As for Beethoven's Ode to Joy, I can't hear that without thinking of Die Hard.

In addtion to a bunch of others, this is the first one that popped into my head when I read the thread title:

The End by The Doors - Apocolypse Now. That's the defining moment in that movie for me, when Willard rises out of that water with The End playing. Every time I watch the movie, I'm looking forward to that scene.
