BTW -- SOTS is still doing great in the polls (#1, #1, #1, and #2 - respectively). Keep those votes coming!!!

Mike,
Wow! That article was 100% on target in every way - and extremely well-written. I hope that it gets picked up and reprinted in the New York Times or some other national publication. Thanks so much for your insight!

Good job, Mike. Terrifc effort there. I wonder if there's any chance of this getting picked up around the nation more? Sort of spread the word, y'know?
In any case, I just e-mailed it to a few friends, and they ought to spread it themselves. Nothing like a good grassroots campaign getting good press!... :)

Thanks, guys. The piece may or may not be picked up on the Newhouse News Service, although I never have input on which of my columns, reviews or stories NNS will use. I'm on jury duty this week, so I won't even be at the office to check until the judge cuts me loose. :frowning: (But I am happy to do my civic duty, despite the frown face. :) )

You've done your civic duty by helping in your own way to preserve film history! Journalists certainly have much greater reach and can educate many more people than us common folk. Have fun at jury duty.
:D
{Sounding like a broken record, ...}
If you haven't already, please vote for "Song of the South" and send Disney a message (see links above)! Tell your friends too!!!

Then, since noone else indicated it was done, I sent another note to Digital Bits, DVD File, DVD Review, DVD Journal, The Guide to Disney Masterpieces Page, and even Moriarty at AICN (I don't read there anymore, but my wife does on occassion) to let them all know that this input was being asked for. Maybe they can all spread the word so that Disney will get the message pronto!!
I see that DVDJournal posted that today as the final letter in their Mail column! Thanks to them for spreading the word!

Hopefully the other DVD sites will step up to the plate...

I posted a note asking for the original, uncut version. Political correctness is out of control while the government slowly trods towards socialism.

Thanks for the note about the DVD Journal site! I've not been there in a long time. They have some great stuff.
In their response to the letter about Disney's Song of the South DVD request page, they said:
Perhaps a code-free Disney DVD is in order, distributed in say... Turkmenistan?
:)
NOW THERE'S A GREAT IDEA!!!! I'll put my mail order in right away! That would be funny if Turkmenistan suddenly became a major DVD supplier country.

If people black and white would junk this PC crap and really

talk to each other SOTS and the Looney toon and others would

already be released.

When The Last Temptation if Christ was released I did'nt see so much concern about people's feelings who thought that

movie was the trashing of Jesus Christ's reputation.(I did feel that way!!!)

But that film deserved to succeed or fail on its merits.

Hello everyone! I recognize a few familiar "faces" here: Mike Brantley, the editor for the Mobile Register, and Stephen, who contacted me regarding this thread. A few others I may have talked to as well, however those were the two that jumped out at me.
I'd like to introduce myself for those of you who don't yet know me. I am the webmaster of SongoftheSouth.net, and I'm really encouraged by all your support! It's wonderful to know that there are so many other people out there who care as much about this movie's survival as I!
Now, on to the unpleasantries. I received this email back on December 29:
I found your site via a discussion on the Home Theater Forum site. We are discussing there how Disney is soliciting votes and feedback as to whether SotS should be released on DVD! I urge you to read the thread, cast your own vote in favor of the release, and show your site's readers the link, too. If you do, then you will truly be a site that promotes the film for its own sake. If you don't, then I suspect you are trying to profit off of selling the PAL version of the VHS and this site is just an ad for it. I'm sure Disney would HATE to see that you're cyber-squatting on a URL that ought to rightfully belong to them, and profiting off of a grey-market (at best) import and copy-to-NTSC operation. :frowning:
I must admit I'm very disappointed in whoever wrote this. If that person truly paid attention to the content of my web site, they would realize that is completely false. I've spent three years of my life so far on researching this movie, not trying to profit off of it.
Furthermore, why the heck WOULDN'T I vote for it? After all, I noted this link in my news section back on December 17, long before this thread even popped up (and possibly even WHY this thread popped up?)
Lastly, I'm not "cyber-squatting on a URL that ought to rightfully belong to [Disney]". If Disney really wants my domain, then let them fight for it. I suspect they would rather have the .com which I do not own nor do I wish to own just for that exact reason.
I'd like to apologize for my big crash-bang entrance by starting out with a rant, but I really had to get that off my chest. I love Song of the South and I resent the idea that my work could be purely self-serving.
Thanks for listening. :)
Sincerely,
Christian

My mother got this film for her birthday. My sister got her a japanese version of the film. I watched the film and just loved it! Although I can see where some people could be offended by the film I don't think this film is racist. Please Disney put out this film. A new generation needs to see this.

Christian,

I hope you don't get the impression that most of us feel this way. You maintain a wonderful site, which I have visited prior to this thread's existence. Your motives are clear when visiting the site. You love this film and would love nothing more than to see this classic released in America.

Keep up the good work!

Hello Aaron! After reading most of this thread, I certainly don't believe most of you feel that way, which is why I even hesitated to mention the letter.
I would have contacted that person personally but they gave a bogus name and email address so they could get around my feedback system.
Anyways, I appreciate your support! Thank you. :)

Done, done, and done some more :)
Why not use these films as an educational tool
to teach others how far we have come in the past
70+ years.
I think Ron is right on with that remark.
Anyone read comics? Especially old 1940s war-time comics (Captain America, Superman etc) where Germans and Japanese people are portrayed in a racist and stereotypical manner? (The Fleischer cartoons have some of this too)
DC comics release their Superman archives in beautiful hardback books which reprint these extremely valuable issues. And why? Because it is american history and is important.
Now I know SOTS isn't exactly to disney what Superman is to DC Comics but its still a part of american history. Kids are taught about the civil war, well there was most certainly racism there and it is a LEARNING experience.
Showing old and 'questionable' material can be exactly the same thing; it can show the shortcomings of previous generations' interpretations of the world and society and help the current generation better themselves. The only problem is that films are too often looked at as simply entertainment and with no educational or historical value. Well Baseball is just a 'game' and are we to say that it has no historical value too? negro-leagues anyone?
