Editors Note: I applaud Columbia for

    announcing this in advance.

As announced last week, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment is releasing

"Black Hawk Down" on DVD and videocassette on June 11. In addition,

CTHE and director Ridley Scott are in the process of creating a

special-edition DVD of the critically acclaimed film. In addition to the

film itself and a behind-the scenes documentary, both of which are

included on the June 11 DVD, this new special edition of "Black Hawk

Down" will feature a wide range of added-value elements, including a

feature-length commentary by Mr. Scott and other behind-the-scenes

material that bring new insight into this important film.

The release date for the special-edition DVD of "Black Hawk Down" will

    be announced in the future.

I just received the same e-mail from Columbia.

Major kudos to them for not screwing the public into purchasing BHD twice !

Kudos to Columbia for admitting the SE is in the works to the public now, I totally agree. The SE will have a sale out of me for sure.

I agree that this is a good thing, and follows nicely in the footsteps of the Fellowship of the Ring announcement of both the basic and special editions at the same time.

God bless 'em. I was going to hold out anyway... If only we can get someone to do the same with Dick Tracy.

The original release was unusually bare bones for a Ridley Scott DVD, and there was much SE speculation here at HTF, so I was going to pass anyway. Nice to have the SE confimed in advance, however.

i know this sounds petty, buti i really hope that the dvd cover art is cheezy on this bare bones release and we get the actual theatrical poster-artwork for the upcoming special edition.
c'mon we all know CTHV's evil ways
(look at The Sixth Day:SE cover art[IMG] )

Does anyone know if the cover art of the bare-bones release is the same as the poster artwork except the Black Hawk Down title is at the top.

    I've seen two poster arts.

I really like the poster art work and it would be nice if they keep if for the special edition, as well.

Amen. Thanks to CTHV. Wonder if CTHV saw a lot of the comments on the internet complaining about this...

Bravo to CTHV. I was thinking of buying this one, but I will just rent it and wait for the special edition.

I am guessing that a DTS-track will be on the second release of Black Hawk Down.
Ridley Scott always uses DTS wherever possible (like with Hannibal at MGM) so I am not worried.

All applause and kudos to CTHV aside, this sounds like a subversive attempt at a rental-window to me. What's the MSRP on the bare disc? Comments?

    Cheers.
