How's this for stupidity! Deciding that I needed to see the improvement of picture quality and glare reduction on my Mits WS-48311 without the Diamond Shield I decided to remove it. Taking out my owners manual and carefully following the directions I attempted to remove it. In the final step - IT SNAPPED LIKE A TWIG!!!

I'm sure it's my fault somehow, though I'm not sure how.

Anyway, the reason for this post is two fold:

1)If you decide to remove you Diamond Shield, be very, very
careful.

2) When it did snap, it left to my complete and utter shock,
a 3-4 inch thin scuff mark on the lenticular screen. I
was sure this ruined my screen. But to my amazement, even
though you can clearly see it when the tv is off and you
walk-up to the screen, you cannot see it when watching
DVD's or tv. I have watched probably 10 DVD's since this
horribly embarring incident, and I've tried my hardest
to notice it and can't. I've walked up to the screen,
I've moved around to different viewing distances and
angles, and it just can't be noticed. Needless to say
this stopped me from throwing myself in front of a bus.

I guess my question is, will this scuff mark manifest itself in the future during viewing, or will it just stay invisable and be a reminder that I'm a goofball?

Any input and/or ridicule is welcome.

You will probably only notice it when the set is off. This is not to say that it won't continue to drive you insane. the only cure I see in your future is to replace the screen.

I hope that you at least like the picture better with the shield off. I suggest that since your viewing experience is not impacted by the scruff mark, just sit back and forget about it. Resell value is probably shot, but if you get a few years out of it, resell value would be shot anyway. Just pass it around the house as you upgrade (if space allows).
