Yes, it's a horrible thing to do, but I'd hardly call the victims blameless. Anytime you engage in unsafe sex, you're setting yourself up to inherit any number of diseases.

OK people, I want to know the secret to boning 170 women. Forget in a year, I would settle for 170 in 10 years. Heck, the vast majority of people don't see that kind of action in a lifetime, even people who never married.

This is akin to people who get suckered by financial scams. We say they were stupid for not being careful, but victimization involves exploiting a person's level of trust. True, the victim is responsible for his/her decisions, but how does that compare to the responsibility of the victimizer to be an honest, decent person? Being a Buffy fan (and this being a entertainment forum), a person who is fully aware of the vampire on the door step will not invite it in.

I would suspect that this man chose his victims carefully as well (even unconsciously)...I doubt that many of them were super-model-like babes with the accompanying high self-esteem. Most were likely average in that respect.

But you never know...maybe he has that appeal that triggers hard-wired responses from 90% of the female (male too?) population? I mean...telling someone they are special and the only worthwhile person in the world would be appealing for him/her right?

I'd love to read the case-files on this guy...

Not that I'm defending the guy, but we're getting a little carried away.

4 people he slept with have HIV. Do we know it came from him, no.

There are 170 exposures. That doesn't mean he slept with 170 people. It includes individuals who slept with someone he slept with.

Are the numbers likely to go up? Sure.
Is it wrong for him to not be honest? Sure.
Are there worse people in the world? Sure.

Edit : don't forget that the chance of contracting HIV from a single exposure is lower than you'd expect...don't remember the exact number right now...

I'm with Chris. If this guy forced himself on these women (or if they used protection), then I'd have a little more sympathy for the women...and not that I am sticking up for the guy either, but I do think both parties share the responsibility and the blame.

Well, as noted earlier, it doesn't exactly say he slept with 170, just that he slept with some (4 specifically mentioned but probably more), and they would've slept with some other men, so 170 in the 1st and 2nd generation, and maybe the 3rd (to use the terminology in the HIV+ pornstars story).

First, he didn't infect 170 people -- he only had sex with 40, and most of those have NOT tested positive. The 170 figure includes people whom his previous sexual partners had sex with. 170 people were put at RISK.

As a gay man who has gone 20 years without contracting HIV, I have about as much sympathy for these women as I have for someone who walks out onto a busy street with a blindfold on and figures that, odds are, the drivers will stop. And odds are, they will. So?

You know how many guys have tried to talk me into not using condoms? A lot, and I told them ALL no.

In the gay community, most of us feel you're responsible for YOURSELF. If you don't want to catch HIV, then don't have unprotected sex. If you do, and you catch it, it's your own fault, unless you're in a committed relationship and got it from your partner. That's the way we look at it.

If these hos are going to be spreading their legs, they better use protection, or face the consequences.
