Throne of Blood

I'll second:

Hamlet (1990)
Julius Caesar

I'll nominate:

MacBeth (1948 - Welles)
Othello (1952 - Welles)
Othello (1995)

Two thirds and one second left.

Great, Steve. You may not have seen many, but you've seen some good ones. BTW, can anyone tell me anything about Forbidden Planet? Any good? What play's it based on? I could do some research on it, but I'm too lazy. :)

Here's Leonard Maltin's :star::star::star:1/2 review:

In short, it's well-regarded both critically and among sci-fi fans, with arguably the greatest visual effects in history, pre-2001. It also features one of the most terrifying monsters in filmdom, which I won't ruin here.

Good stuff.

I'll second Polanski's MacBeth. Can't believe I didn't think of it - heck, I just bought the DVD a few months ago. :b

Two thirds left.

Has anyone seen The King is Alive? If so, how is it? A local video store has the DVD and I've been thinking about renting it...

Go here for more details on the movie.

I don't know if that can count, Richard, because technically, Shakespeare horked their script, not the other way around. :)

It fucking sucked big-time! One of those pretentious, boring, crap-fests that people who don't know how to make a frickin movie like to churn out under the label of "Dogme95" in hope that pseudo-intellectual film critics will lap it right up.

A bunch of people stranded in the desert, mumbling non-sense for a couple of hours. Along with intentionally crude camera work ("Hey the camera is shaky, see how real our film is?")

Just awful!

List updated. 14 films are in. 2 more and I'll start the tourney. Please vote on the individual merits of the film, rather than how faithful they are to Shakespeare.
