Well, it depends on the institution...
Some places, the average salaries of custodians are in excess of $33000/year. That means that some have higher wages, and some have lower wages. It isn't terribly unheard-of for a custodian with a few years seniority to make $40000 or more.
Where we are at, most 2nd year residents still make right around $40000/year. They are also not allowed to moonlight until their third year. So...
