Screenshot #3 Answer: It Happened One Night (1934)
Clue: Heiress
Comment: I like the way the large tree, and its shadow, dominate the frame. I chose an image that included the sign “ladies” but not the one immediately to the right that said “showers”. That’s Claudette Colbert walking left-to-right, hiding her face from you.

Screenshot #4 Answer: The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005)
Clue: Mexico
Comment: This memorable shot from an excellent semi-obscure film appeals to me because it’s such a powerful and unforgettable image. The hot-head is a corpse, though he looks very much alive here. That’s Tommy Lee Jones on the right. If you’ve seen this film, I imagine you wouldn’t have too much trouble placing this scene.

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada
Thanks for the reminding of a film I have wanted to hunt up!
[and the point for being a goofus, have a feeling I’ll need all those I can get.
I’m not very good at this type game!]
Could have sworn that was Jason Robard’s in profile and was racking my brains, Robards was in many movies South of the B.

Attention!

The three-point bonus is awarded to Bill McA, who was the first to notice that each of my films contain a number in the title.

Very astute, Mr. Bill !!

Note on the bonus points:

As you know, I set this up as a 12-shot challenge. I had twelve films selected, each including a number from 1 through 12.

Because Bill McA cracked the code, the remainder of the challenge would likely be too easy as y'all know that each title will contain a number.

However, I don't want to abandon my scheme altogether.

So, for the rest of the challenge - seven more shots - approximately half (:D) will be of the films I originally selected (that is, containing a number) and the others will be simply frames that I find interesting to look at.

Hope you're all having as much fun as I am.

Screenshot #5 Answer: “10” (1979)
Clue: Affair
Comment: Can you make out that that’s Dudley Moore being piggy-backed across the beach? I wasn’t sure if he is recognizable in this shot. I purposely cut off Bo Derek’s head and left the remainder of her body in the foreground. I struggled to come up with a good clue for this one. Ravel? Bolero? Telescope? All too obvious, I decided.

Bonus (3 points):

Hey, wait a minute. I'm not aware of any movie ever made with an AR of 1.5:1.

Well, '10' doesn't have an AR of 2.07 either. He already said that he intentionally cut off Bo Derek's head in that last shot.

I don't think that we can use the aspect ratio as a clue this time around, fellas.

Alright, this is weird. Something in my screen capture or editing software is changing the dimensions of my shots.

Assume the above shot is 1.85:1; change your guess if you'd like to based on that info.

I didn't mean to suggest that I cut Bo's head off (although I can see that that's the impression I gave); merely that I chose a shot that did not include her head. I wouldn't purposely change the aspect ratio.

Anyway, I'll try and figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Sorry for the confusion.

Jon, what you have above is a full-frame, uncorrected anamorphic image. To get the correct AR, you have to change the existing AR from 1.5:1 to 16:9, then crop off the small bit of black at the top and bottom, and you will have a 1:85 image.

This is the same thing I get when I capture images.
