My friend just picked up this Samsung HP-R4272 plasma set.

I have a 30" HDTV Samsung tube set that I bought a few years ago ... at which point I found access to the "service menu" I think here or on Home Theater Talk ... tweaked the set with it and it has been flawless since.

Is there such a menu access for the new plasma models as well ... where can I find it if so???

I don't know how to access the service menu on that model. But the on-screen menu's are simple to navigate, and you can get great results without having to resort to a service menu adjustment.
Be warned, the screen you have is set to the maximum contrast out of the box.
