I have been playing 'Uncharted: Drake's Fortune', these last few days and it really is a lot of fun. Another game you might want to check out, which is really fun for the whole family, is 'Rachet & Clank: Tools Of Destruction'.

Sony will do anything to get the gaming machine in homes whether people want it or not. Trojan Horse in reverse, Sony got Blu-ray into homes off the momentum of a new gaming machine, now it's the most Robust Blu-ray player and will be for the next 12 months. It's not like Sony could not deliver a Blu-ray player like the PS3 striped of all gaming expense like the hard drive and even maybe make a profit. Blu-ray S/A players might be artificially high to allow PS3 saturation in homes.

The rumour did not come from a credible source & no "reliable" gaming rumour sites had anything to back it up either. Cheap Ass Gamer even posted scans of BB/CC adverts showing no price drop for this week & next week too.

If Sony wants to keep their alliance with Warner, they better stick to the conditions. Lowering the price of the PS3 was supposed to be one of them, so it's bound to happen, I'd say.

But perhaps some old retailer's stock needs to be moved first?

Maybe they're waiting until the replacement for the 80GB model is ready, and they've cleared out all of the 40GB models that come packed with Spider-Man 3. Who knows?

The rumor started on a blog and was pure speculation because the Best Buy the blogs' owner worked at was clearing out their 80GB inventory. That's when people with nothing better to do started the rumors of Sony dropping the price to $299 as a condition of the BDA's agreement with Warner. The truth came out yesterday - the 80GB model is to be replaced with either a 120GB or 160GB later this year. The price points will remain the same: $399 40GB, $499 120/160GB

Not sure, but I thought the rumor was in part based on the FCC filing for a new white version of the PS3/40GB that supposedly had already been available in Japan for a couple months. That's what the link(s) provided in the original post as well as this post below suggest:

Like some mentioned, it could just be that Sony's waiting for some inventory to clear or something. Who knows? Of course, there's still the $100-back deal at Sony's own stores (and online SonyStyle site) though, if people want to get the PS3/40GB for roughly $300 (+ tax).
