Obviously Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, To Be Or Not To Be (The Jack Benny version), and Bringing Up Baby.... should be a great month.

wonderful news.

if i had to single out any movie that "inspired" me to seek out independent type movies, this would be the one.

up to that point, all i knew was hollywood. after watching that, i remember thinking, "wow, there's other stuff out there?".

the verbal volley scene still cracks me up!

truly, for me, a land-mark film.

i love the little sight gags like the fokker triplane paper airplane, the bath water displacement, and the hanging baskets.

and yes, the verbal volley match is a riot. i'm afraid that's something that never really registered with me the first time i saw it, but i only just got after seeing it on cable the past year. i guess that's what good wordplay does to you.

well, i guess not really baskets, but the row of clay pots holding beans or whatever, and rosencrantz(or was it guildenstern? ) nudges one, which hits the one next to it, causing the last one in the line to move, you know, like those rows of metal balls hanging that some people have on their desks? you pull two away, let them go and they hit, and then two from the other end pop away from the line?

so anyway, he tries this a couple more times, the last pot in line keeps moving as a result, so then he gets guildenstern(or rosencrantz?) to come over and look at it, whereupon he brings the pot way back and lets it go, but when it strikes the next pot this time, it cracks from the impact and the entire bottom falls out. guildenstern(?) just looks at him like, "so that's the big deal you wanted to show me? idiot"

I'm kind of surprised that they're going with the same art as the old VHS tape. Is this the original 1-sheet art for the film? Anyway, I'm surprised they aren't going with some over-photoshopped monstrosity. Wow!

Well it comes out tomorrow and the first reviews have started to appear. A bit late but still nice. This has turned out to be a really loaded release, even though it was really downplayed for some reason by Image (DTS and 3 hours of interviews!).

Once again, outstanding news! For a while there, I doubted I'd ever see it get a decent r1 release. The antithesis of a mass-market film, but for those of us who love it, an essential part of our collection.
