THE SEARCHERS remains among the best BD video transfers in my collection. I don't know how much being shot in Vistavision had to do with it looking SO spectacular, but there are very few newer films I think match its clarity and "pop" aspect. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for these two classics.

I'm very glad to hear the BD version got top notch too.
Warner really set some standards there! And continued doing so since.

There is some confusion as to the actual release date for the HD DVD/BRD of these two titles. Some sites are indicating a June 5th release date while others have May 22nd posted. Hopefully, this will be cleared up in the next couple of days.

What kind of image will the Rio Bravo restoration yield?

The Searchers looks fantastic in HiDef.

I hope Warners are able to achieve similar results with Rio Bravo.

What is the aspect ratio? What film stock was used?

I believe this film was shot 35mm open matte for 1.85:1 projection. I'm not sure what film stock would have been used in 1959. 5248 25T was discontinued in 1959 and 5250 50T was introduced in 1959 so depending on if it were shot in 58 or 59 it could be either or both. Maybe Robert Harris can comment on that.

So is Rio Bravo HD going to be feature-less?

If so, I'm going to a have a difficult choice between the 2-disc standard def version for $13 or a barebones HD-DVD in the $20s.

It'll have the same extras at 6x's the resolution for the feature.

I pre-odered the Warner with those recent coupon codes. Came to under $15. Pretty much a no brainer.
