I'm looking to pick up a decent DVD player for my father in the $100 price range. I'm mainly looking for something with good picture quality (obviuosly) and easy to navigate menus. I'd prefer a progressive scan unit, but other than that I'm open to any suggestions.

Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

Does your father have a TV capable of progressive (480p) format? Only digital/HD sets can handle 480p, regular analog TVs are interlaced (480i) only. Under $100, I'd recommend the JVC or Panasonic models for interlaced video. For true progressive video you have to get to $200-300 range for a model with a decent de-interlacer like Faroudja.
