a few suggestions...(pardon me if a few were mentioned already)

Big Trouble in Little China
Tango & Cash
Young Guns
Total Recall
The Running Man
Silverado (good western action)
Tombstone
U-571
El Mariachi
Desperado
Once Upon a Time in Mexico
The Thing
Brotherhood of the Wolf
Rambo trilogy (the first in particular)
The Mask of Zorro
Commando

I realize a good number of these movies I listed are cheesy...but...still fun nonetheless.

While it may not qualify as an action movie in todays terms, I think North by Northwest is a fantastic movie.

88 titles so far...there has to be a few more good ones out there.

i just picked up a Charles Bronsan movie called The Mechanic last night- haven't watched it yet so i don't know just how good it is. i'm pretty sure its an action movie though.

In addition to all the others mentioned, I propose:

The Last Boy Scout:

Definately hard-core, a throw back to the old film-noir detective stories with a violent 90's mentality, not to mention some seriously wicked one-liners and an interesting plot, if somewhat absurd.

Rob Roy had awesome swordfights, but does any swordfight, even among the classics, come NEAR The Princess Bride? I've only seen RR twice, so it's at a disadvantage, but...

I love a *good* action movie. And I also enjoyed The Last Boy Scout...much better than I expected ;)

Take care,
Chuck

"S.W.A.T." is a disgrace to filmmaking! I HATED it....A LOT!!!
"The Thing" is AWESOME! But only the ORIGINAL version. The re-make is alright, but doesn't compare with it's predecessor, "The Thing from Another World"!
"Entrapment" is probably the worst movie I have ever seen....oh, wait...I forgot about "Fair Game". OK, it's the second worst movie I have ever seen. ;)

Versus was a pretty good action movie. It's a foriegn movie, so there may be some trouble finding it, but it just got released in N. America recently.
