I moved into a new house and I'm limited to bookshelf speakers. All I have is a 10 inch velodyne sub to match the future front and rear speakers. It's a fairly large room with high ceilings. I'd like to get some input on what's out there. I have a budget of $700-800 and I need a center, front and rear speakers. Any input would be appreciated.

With that budget, I'd probably go with paradigm titans in the front and atoms in the rear... and then either the cc170 or cc270 as the center.

    Or

I'd go w/ Axiom M3's for fronts and rears and the VP 100 for the center and M2's for the rears.

Of course... I like paradigm and axiom speakers... I'm sure you're going to get lots and lots of advice from people with other preferences.

    Good luck.

Asking a little much of the Velodyne there.

I'd want 8" low end drivers minimum if your going to keep using that sub and move the xover as low in frequency as you can. That means some pretty large bookshelf speakers though.

Ascend Acoustics CBM 170's are a super speaker with big sound from a small enclosure. I used to own Axioms and IMO the Ascends are a better speaker. I'm not trying to knock the Axioms because i thought they sounded pretty good. I just think the 170's are an even better speaker and an awesome value.

    Good Luck,

    Anthony,

Dalton's suggestion is very good, and highly consistent with everything I've ever read. I've never heard Ascend's... for me the speaker's aesthetics was a big consideration b/c my wife wasn't crazy w/ me turning the living room into a home theater to begin with... and the black box look wouldn't have flown. But if they're going to go into a wall unit, or if you're only looking for very good and surprisingly big sound from a bookshelf, going with Ascends is an outstanding suggestion.
