Reception Problems with DirectTV (1 Viewer)

I have a Sony receiver and I've noticed a couple of problems in the last couple of months. First, it seems the program guide is running a bit slower, enough to notice anyway. Second, when a description shows up for a program, it is sometimes garbled. If I bring it up again, its ok.
Is this a problem with DirectTVs transmission, or is most likely the receiver, which is about 3 years old now? I had always thought the digital receiver would either work, or not work. I didn't expect it to degrade gradually.

I've had strange things happen occasionally. You know, these things are more like computers than conventional TV receivers, and there are occasionally odd unexplainable glitches. Most of the minor ones, I expect are at the DirecTV end.
Newer receivers might handle the occasional digital error better than your old Sony. The uncertainty surrounding the sale of the comany might result in some great deals on equipment.
