I bought the yamaha rxv-730 a couple weeks ago and was just wondering one thing. The salesman said it had DTS EX (or es cant remember the one that goes with DTS though), along with the dolby digital one. One the recievers front the dolbly digital has the EX under it(or whatever it is), while the DTS doesnt should this be? I have been scammed on recievers before and just wondering if you guys could help.

Hi Reid!

This is from Yamaha's web site :

Yamaha's powerful decoding circuitry incorporated into the RX-V730 performs Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby ProLogic II, DTS, and DTS "ES-Compatible" decoding with extreme accuracy. Yamaha's Quad-Field CINEMA DSP adds an additional rear center soundfield, allowing enjoyment of 6.1 channel movie sound formats. The RX-V730 provides 21 surround programs and offers a total of 41 surround environment variations.
It would seem it doesn't have true DTS-ES certification but frankly most 6.1 receivers do exactly what Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES do without being "certified" to do it. It's a way of keeping licensing costs down while providing the same performance for less money.
