I was doing a little channel surfing tonight before I went out and happened to come across The Omen on AMC. I hadn't watched it in ages and after the parts I saw tonight was left with a nagging question. What was the significance of the priest that had the 666 birthmark on his thigh? I know he warned Thorn about Damien, but why did he have the birthmark? Since that number is the mark of the beast, wouldn't that make him a messenger of Satan, rather than a messenger of God? If he wasn't the latter, why was he helping Thorn out? I can't remember if this was explained later in the film or in the novel. Any ideas?

The priest had because he was helping in bringing the child into this world. There are 2 priests in the movie who relize what they had done and tried to repent.
