A friend bought a Sony VPL-CX21 projector from a pawnshop. It did not have a remote or the proprietary Sony cable to connect composite video to it. He did not try it before buying. We connected it to my laptop through the vga input and the video has a massive purple "shadow" on it. We then tried a dvd player using a component to vga cable and found the same thing. Tried going into the menu (the menu display is perfectly clear) to adjust whatever settings we could and nothing cleared it up. My thought is that the projector has a major issue and is not worth fixing (he paid $100 for it), but I thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas before we put it out of his misery. Thanks

check for a huge dust blob. If not then the panels are defective (and toss it).
