A gun barrel wavers across the screen. Judi Dench struts smartly across the white background from left to right. Suddenly she turns on one high-heel and whips a Walther PPK from under her blazer and snaps off a round at the camera. The gun barrel shakes, blood pours, and we are into the pre-title chase sequence of Quantum of Solace, the 22nd James Bond adventure. Dench speeds down a narrow winding mountain road, hot on the trail of an awol 007. Seems Bond is stirring up a rebellion against female authority in South America which threatens to spread all over the world, and she is going to put a stop to it even if it means turning him over her knee ... Just kidding, of course. Be advised there are spoilers galore in these first reviews: Review: Quantum of Solace - Telegraph Latest Bond shakes and stirs, but where’s the old humour? - Film Reviews, Film & TV - The Independent Film review: Quantum of Solace | Film | The Guardian QUANTUM OF SOLACE Movie Review, Trailer, Website at TheShiznit.co.uk Quantum of Solace: the Times review of the new James Bond - Times Online Quantum Of Solace - review from the first UK screening of the latest James Bond movie - mirror.co.uk Quantum of Solace FIRST REVIEW - Sky Movies BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Bond's depths emerge in bleak tale Review of Quantum of Solace | TotalFilm.com ============== Reviews don't always stay up for long. If they are no longer accessible in a couple of weeks I will post excerpts from the ones I saved. I admit I like the sound of some of these reviews. What some critics see as faults, sound more like virtues to me. But there are definitely some comments about the film that are disappointing to learn in these reviews.

Ajay Chowdhury, president of The International James Bond Fanclub and editor and publisher Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Magazine, published what he calls a "spoiler free" review. It is the most detailed review thus far, but actually every word of it is a spoiler, so be warned:

Thanks for all the links Richard. I've read so many reviews I feel like I've seen the film already. ;)

It's out on the 31st here, oh yeah, looking forward to seeing the first ever 007 'sequel'.

Do let us know your impressions, but remember we don't get the film until November 14 in the states.

This is news to me. Is it actually true or are you joking? I know how you feel about these latter day Bond movies. If the above is true then QoS will be the last Bond movie I go to see. They have completely lost the program if Dench is going to be doing the gun barrel sequence and is going to be acting like Bond's Den mother.

Some of the reviews have me a little disheartened. Certainly the movie will be fun and action packed, but when will producers learn that what makes a movie loved - what keeps the audience coming back - is a great story and strong characters?

With this installment, the filmmakers seem to have jettisoned good story telling for big action. And I suppose that's part of why audiences go to see Bond movies. But what set Casino Royale apart from the others was its character, story, and heart. I'm just afraid they'll see they can make about as much money without going that extra mile and we'll wind up in the same place we were in after Die Another Day.

I honestly don't care about characters all that much in Bond films.

What worries me is how far they're scaling back the Bond girls ... I think that's a mistake if they're trying to make it too much of a Bourne-like series.

I thought the action was good in "Casino Royale", but it was a bit charmless & cold, this new one sounds even more so. I'm in no rush to see it.
