What they did was eliminate a bunch of grossly exaggerated psychic body movements and replaced them with a wonderful script. I didn't check the credits but I swear the escapee was W. Earl Brown although there's no credit on his IMDB listing.

Though not mention in the article above, I read that Psych will be back in December for a Christmas episode.

You mean Shawn, right? Jules and Gus don't really have any sexual tension. It just oozes from Shawn and Jules.

I agree that it was a nice moment though. It advanced that relationship without betraying the characters or cashing in on a cheap Big Moment. It put the possibility back in everybody's minds, though. Both Shawn and O'Hara looked pretty pleased with themselves.

Gus's Dad May Have Killed an Old Guy

It had it's Christmas theme here and there.
The actual killing case wasn't even Christmas theme.
It was more like bookends Christmas.

Steve Franks, the creator and writer of the theme song, redid the theme song to give it a more Christmas feel with Christmas fonts.
It was pretty cool.

I liked at the end how Shawn fooled his dad on guessing his Christmas present.

It was also pretty cool seeing Ernie Hudson and Phylicia Rashad playing Gus's parents

They also reminded us that Psych Season 3 starts January 11th
So it looks like they got episodes in the can before the strike.
I'm wondering if they got by a whole season.

I think it's a Canadian production and their Writers Guild settled it's contract during the Summer, IIRC. Stargate Atlantis may be another one that can continue. Cross border jurisdiction of writers, actors and directors guilds may be tricky, however.

But I thought Canadian Produced stuff shut down about a month ago.
That's why bionic Woman and other Canadian produced shows are on hiatus

It's a Canadian production but not a Canadian show. Like many shows shot in Vancouver, the writer's room is in Los Angeles. Thus the American WGA, and thus the impact from the strike. "Battlestar Galactica," another Vancouver production, is shut down for the same reason.

Didn't watch Monk yet, but Psych was broadcast in widescreen, so I assume Monk was as well.

I love the show, but the USA network is quickly loosing me as a viewer.

They kept showing the "New Psych Christmas Episode" or something like this the whole time during the show. This, plus the USA logo on the other corner completely ruined it for me.

I hope they don't do this all the time.

Why do I need to be told what I am watching?

I knew there were a lot of issues when crossing borders. I wonder if the Canadian productions will have the ability to "move" the "writer's room" if things remain stalled in the USA? A lot of series bring in different writers for various episodes anyway.

The showrunner of a TV series is also the head writer, so I doubt it. He wouldn't put his own people out of a job like that.

Well, I unfortunately missed the Christmas episode (rats!) so I'm really excited to have Psych return next Friday (1/11).

Hey, what's the deal with the new episodes? I thought this was a summer series.

I'm enjoying the new batch of episodes in any case. Perhaps they're just airing what they have in the can since, as in summer, they don't have much competition (or anything else to air) due to the strike.

Ugh, we missed the latest episodes. Brighthouse did a channel lineup shuffle, and the recording presets weren't adjusted.

They write the seasons straight through, planning of course for the Christmas episode in the middle. So even once the strike started, production could continue because all the scripts were in the can.

It did? Oh, right... I remember the joke about Shawn suggesting the Chief taking maternity leave "until January" just before the mid-season break, indicating when new episodes would return.

Man, I must be getting old. Life is becoming a blur.
