Proper Speaker placement? (1 Viewer)

What is the the ideal placement for your speakers in a 5.1 surround system? Right now I have My two front speaker about 1.5 metres both sides of the Tv and my surround speakers are about 1 metre +/- back, and 1.5 left and right. What I am unclear about is the height of the surround speakers? right now one is on our piano and is about 4 feet off the ground and the other is on the mantle at about 6 feet. what would the Ideal location of these surround speakers be?

They should be a couple feet above your head when seated. 6 or 7 feet should be fine. If you like it the way it is now, thats fine too.
