How bad is it to have the center channel ~ 2-3 (closer to 2) feet above listening position? I'm looking at a new TV, and the stand is quite tall...

It will be fine. Many of us face this problem as Center speakers aren't built into the TV screens... As long as you can easily aim it to your listening position it shouldn't pose a problem.

Yes, it will be fine. Definetly aim the speaker towards the listening position. The thing that will have the biggest impact is Calibrating the speakers. Calibrate and you will be fine.
